E-Gold is complicating for customers and it provides them with no protection at all. You cannot just sign up for an e-gold account and start using it, you will then need to go ahead to find someone who is willing to exchange funds for e-gold before you can use it. If the customer is not already an existing e-gold account holder, there is no incentive to sign up.
I too have experienced frustrating chargebacks with PayPal. Never a definite answer as to why! I've had proof of delivery from the Post Office, order confirmations, you name it. Doesn't matter. I'll be looking at some of these alternatives too. Merchant accounts aren't necessarily better. They tend to side with the buyer, too.
As long as you are doing mail order and accept credit card payments, the bank will have the final say (and most of the time, only say) to grant or refuse a chargeback. Paypal is powerless when that happens. They can appeal but most of the times they would fail. The problem is the lack of a signature so the onus is on the merchant to prove. When Paypal grants a chargeback, they lose their commission too and it is definitely not in their best interest to accept it. Other payment processors may appear to be better not because they are not subjected to the same chargebacks but because they perform a lot more internal checks before accepting a payment and thus may be able to weed out some of the bad orders before the order reaches the bank for clearance. Those additional checks are costly as they have to be constantly updated and that is why most other 3rd party processors are way more expensive than Paypal. I believe that Paypal does away with the comprehensive checks because they rely heavily on the verification process which seems to be quite abused as we can see here in DP where members are encouraged to provide fake information and verify with fake bank accounts and VCCs. When Paypal strives to be a low-cost payment processors, they cut corners by not doing the internal checks. Some companies may have their own merchant accounts but may not have a comprehensive internal checks to weed out bad orders and thus would still experience the same fate as with Paypal. So as long as you accept online credit card orders, you will experience the same chargeback issues, you can just minimize it but there is no way to complete eradicate it. It is just part and parcel of doing business online. Do your due diligence before accepting an order.
Have you considered an obligatory phone number from the payer? That way, if they give you are fake telephone number, you would find out pretty quick and cancel their hosting. You can call them via skype for next to nothing. 0.02 cents per minute or whatever! BTW: Genuine clients won't mind giving a real telephone number for their own hosting account security.
same problem i had few weeks ago and 5 people scam me at the same time by chargeback and for each chargeback, i lost $10.00 usd from my account which is the chargeback fees. so i lost hundreds of dollars in two years. so few weeks ago i change to moneybookers . so now i have complete peace of mind as no one can chargeback or reverse a payment at moneybookers. but now i drop sale because people now dont buy my softwares because they cant chargeback from me anymore. but at least i will not lost money anymore and a good buyer will buy it no matter what i use. so i would suggest you to change to moneybookers if you don't want anymore chargeback or reversal.
Moneybookers would require the customer to sign up for an account with them and then finding a way to fund the account, they may have to wait over a week to get their account verified because they are allowed to use their account. It may be too complicating if they just need to make a single payment and that can explain in the reduction in the sales level you are experiencing. Without any recourse, a buyer may be at risk if the merchant does not deliver on his promise. I guess as long as you are happy with what you are doing, there is no harm going ahead.
There are many options out there. Look for a company that offers multiple card acceptance like Visa/MC,JCB,Disc, Amex EU, telephone pay. Then check out their security and fraud proceedures to be sure your stuff is safe. I know there are some out there that have charge back amnesty, no chargeback fees. Some have no setup fees or monthly charges.
i agree with eddy2099 because in this month i only sell two copies of softwares through money bookers beacuse of the registration process. i my sale did drop after i use money bookers because i know people dont like to register accounts just to buy a program for once.
