I'm curious what it is Paypal does that's best/so good compared to other processors? Is it just brand name recognition or is there actually a set of features or some type of service they have that competitors don't?

It's mainly the recognition and customers feel safe when they see a website offering PayPal. PayPal also has a subscription service which non of the competitors have, it's easy to implement on eBay, PayPal Masspay is available and PayPal's customer service has been very good for me.

Yup, it's their name that is make them trustable.
If I put 2checkout, moneybooker or w/e payment processing out there into my site I can guarantee that my sale/subscription will be drop than more than 50%. Why? People just don't trust anything other than the well known PAYPAL. Consumer is very picky and paranoid when they take out a credit card from their wallet. Bottom line is I rather pay higher fee than losing valuable customers.

By people, I meant consumer who is not too high tech or webmasters like us. LoL

I'm sorry but you can't add Epassporte as it is not customer friendly

All the MB and e-gold things are for business to business opportunities and are not customer friendly payment solutions

I mean Epassporte, MB, or the e-gold things can't be used to mass market

Of course they are good for some business like casino, poker, gambling, MLM or scams (!)

The mass market are clients who have not a wide knowledge of the internet as webmasters, they just have a credit card and the will to buy a product online and that's it

If clients have to register to something in order to pay then many many sales are lost
