Couldn't find a recent thread like this, and there has been a similar one about PhpBB which was useful so here goes:

If you're not shy, post a link to your Joomla-based site here along with a few comments and explanations about how you did things. It would be great to see just how flexible Joomla can be and what people are using it for.

It's not supposed to be about reviewing websites, just about showcasing different Joomla ideas which we can all steal, er, learn from :)

I set out do make a novel niche shopping site called It's Gotta Be Red, and it is all still a little cheesy, but it didn't involve any programming on my part - it's all using existing components/modules etc. (which is why not everything quite works as it should :). As far as components go, I am using primarily: Amazon Product Feed and APF Bridge, AlphaContent, Artio JoomSEF and kl_RSSfeed.

To be honest, it will never work quite how it's supposed to without plenty of custom coding, but it's just a hobby really, plus a little trickle of income.

here is my first joomla site
looking to install another one this week
    zipposuperstore.com

    used SH404sef,
picasa web gallery for my collection pics ( as a menu link )
frappr maps for my zippo collectors map
    joomap for site map
jv link exchanger component for links
    virtuemart for web sales
austion ads ( now shopping ads ) for the ebay ad page
mojoblog for blog component ( has a few issiues but i am working on this )
created a new module myself for the RSS feeds and technorati links

plus the standard section/category/content item for the history and faq pages

all was done free and we are actually on google.com.au pages 1-2 for my main keywords
    and google.com pages 2-3

    Hey, that's pretty cool.

One question that a potential customer might well ask - how delivery etc. works? I mean, as a webmaster I am wondering whether you actually stock the items yourself, or are these affiliate sales of some kind? As a customer I would want to know where and how shipping happens.

But that's just a point aside - pretty good use of Joomla I reckon! Though of course anyone who knows Joomla would recognise it as such instantly :) It's pretty hard to get the Joomla out of a Joomla site!

How do you get those sections (i.e. the lighter categories, though I don't know if they are Joomla "categories") to display as a nice list rather than that stupid "blog view", or whatever?

    we actually dropship items
in 2 years never had a problem with delivery

Yeh it looks joomla doesnt it. we are actually testing a new design in joomla 1.5
but are just waiting for better 1.5 components.

the lighter categories are actually done with virtuemart but i think there is a mostree module that can do something similar

I currently have the site www.veganisgreen.com. Plenty of hard work has gone into the creation of this site. Not completed yet but its almost there. I'm just working on a template.

Those look good. The one thing that gives them away (in firefox at least) is the favicon. They still show the Joomla favicon in the browser tab and in the url box.

Strange that they would put that much effort into customizing a design and not replace the favicon. Also the ford dealer hasn't enabled sef urls. Goes to show that no matter how much attention to detail you possess you can always improve somewhere.

We dont use joomla at all but surely as an open source platform you can do absolutely what ever you want with it given not only can you write plug ins but change the base code into what ever you want? is that not the very benefit of OS?

One of the best places I have found to see all that Joomla can do is templateplazza.com

Not a great lover of all the designs they have in their demos but they do include alot of functionality in their template releases.
