I just wanted to start a new thread where everyone here could introduce their forums.

I do frequent a few forums around the net, but it's always interesting to find new ones, both to be an active part of and/or to get ideas for my own. :)

    Ok, I'll start:
    http://www.military-quotes.com/forum/ (shortcut: www.milforum.com)

It's (of course) a military related forum, open for members from all over the world.
It's not a forum for the big political discussions, but rather a place where people can ask questions about the different aspects of the military life, share stories/jokes with each other, and of course discuss recent and historical military events, military hardware, miltech etc...
We do have the occasional Troll or two in there, but since we have a pretty relaxed attitude, we've been able to avoid the big clashes.. (so far.. :) )

    And for the techie part:
PHPbb 2.0.10, installed many mods, and made several myself.
    33112 articles on the forum
    1514 registered users
Been up and running for one and a half year, but not really been used until January this year.
(1400+ members from jan until now..)

So what do you have?? :)

(I hope it's ok to post threads like this here?? Please remove it if it's not Digital...)

    http://forums.ffshrine.org/

    VB 2.2.9
    ~3,600 members (after prunning)
    ~12,500 threads (after prunning)
    ~206,000 posts (after prunning)

this particular forum has been running since 2001, but we had different ones before that (the data/posts/etc were lost though).

we get about 5 new registrations every day where they post at least once. we get probably 20-50 total new registrations a day (but most of these people never post once)

    Of course it's okay...

I have a forum too... Oh wait, you're here. :)

    vBulletin 3.0.3
Cosmetically stock (mostly) because I'm too lazy to make new buttons
A few custom mods that I did myself (adsense revenue sharing for example)

My forum, The Fort Liberty Forum, could be considered to be in competition with yours. :D

I also R/W mirror the Usenet newsgroup alt.internet.search-engines.

I'm running phpBB. I've modified the forums to not use session ID's for guests. I've also modified the layout for allow me to place an AdSense 160x600 skyscraper on the right side. In addition, I modified the logo in the top left corner to take the visitor back to the home page.

After becoming addicted by DigitalPoint's "Recent Forum Topics" box, I added one to my main menu at Fort Liberty.

I run a golf forum called Golf Rewind. I launched it on May 14 and I just passed 500 members this past week. I now rank #1 for "golf forums" on Yahoo!, Alta Vista, #3 at MSN but am having trouble with Google!

I run a phpbb competitions forum, http://www.competitions.com.cn/chatterbox, it's members only (paid subscription) been up since October 2003 and has 531 members, 221,200 posts.

Basically, we are UK 'compers' (people who enter and often win competitions as a hobby or living). By working together we can find out about more competitions, swap entry forms and help each other out with till receipts and slogans etc. On average we win about 20% of all UK competitions run and at the moment we are at 90 car wins between us! Our collective wins forum is open to the public if you want a nosey... http://www.competitions.com.cn/chatterbox/viewforum.php?f=11

It is the best hobby in the world. I've been to places that I could never have afforded without it and met people and done things I'd never even have imagined before comping. My best win so far this year is the Acco competition, £1,000 a month for a year just for finishing a sentence here..
    http://www.acco.co.uk/news_update/detail.asp?id=378

My best week ever was in December 1999 when I won an Hyundai Amica car, a holiday to Mauritius (worth almost £8,000) and a kettle(!) in three different competitions. That was a great week! :D The funniest day was when I won a years supply of Wagon Wheels - 4,000 Wagon Wheels turned up on the doorstep all at the same time - I'd spent most of the morning finding cupboard space, passing some onto the neighbours and the school up the road when in the afternoon another postal van arrived and I'd won a years supply of Cadburys Dream Bars - just as well I've got 5 kids! My son is a huge Manchester United football fan and we won a trip to meet them in London. Truly a prize money couldn't buy. :D

    Wow Jane!

Seems like you've got the right idea!

Roughly how often do you win something?
That would explain why I never win... ;)

I've been using Toast Forums and want to change to PHPBB but I don't know how to create an MS Access database suitable to upload onto our server for the BB to run off.

Anyone who speaks PHPBB and MS Access and knows what to do or where to get one please PM me or email: dominic dot mapstone at gmail dot com

Toast came with it's own database so I nead a little help with this one.

    We have 2 forums:

    Schoolies
    and
    Homeless

The schoolies one has over 500 members and gets posts every second day, the homeless one is pretty dead.

Hopefully with the change to phpbb which the Schoolies have been asking for we will increase the activity there and put our own adsense ads in.
