If you submit to the correct category then it should be relevant content.

If you have a webmastering site, then I'd personally skip the Wedding Directory thats on the list (to name one of a dozen or so niche directories on the free list).

Hi Ryan welcome to DP I think you will find the sticky thread at the top of this category well worth the read :)

Be selective on the free directories :) not all are up to expectations -------- although many are :)

I have submitted to a lot of Free Directories as well as some Paid ones. I found the majority of them on Vilesilencer.com Personally i have found it useful to submit to the Free Directories.

Regarding general directories, if you see that they have allsorts in the category that you wish to submit to and it looks like they dont review too well then maybe avoid those.

If the listings in the category are nice and relevant then it should be fine, if you see simlar keywords and offerings then they should be ok.

Submit to directories that have a very relevant category for your site. Also, take time to look around the directory to ensure that the directory admin takes time to review sites and does not wholesale accept junk sites.

For 50 directories I doubt there would be a penalty because with free directories the review time varies so much that the links would be unlikely to appear concentrated around a particular instant in time.

If your content is irrelevant, don't submit. There are a lot of directory owners who run several niche directories. I do, and it's common to find the same website submitted to all of them in one go, whether it's relevant or not. I often find that if I have to delete one or more submissions of the same website due to irrelevancy, then I have less sympathy for the timewaster who did that when I find that website submitted to the one niche directory that it is on-topic for.

We cant say dirs dont have useful content if managed well dirs can be as good as other informative sites can be, infact there are many dirs with useful content. eg. check in my signature, Gii, romow etc.
