Hello! Keeping Anchor Text in mind, should I concentrate on only one keyword only or should I use multiple keywords? Say I want to achieve good rankings for Online Vegetables. Should I use "online vegetables" as my anchor text in every inbound link or should I try different keywords like Vegetable Store, vegetables online etc etc If I concentrate on one keyword only, would that hurt my rankings? Does Google penalize you for that? Many thanks! z
Concentrate on a variety. That looks more natural, and is also more likely to get you more visitors. And if your site is new, check out the competition. What keywords are they targeting? Start out by targeting keyword phrases with less competition. As your site gets older, and more trusted, you can start moving in on the more competitive terms.
Thanks. What if I already am ranking high on the terms with a neck-to-neck competition? What then should be my strategy?
Also, please remember that it's the search engine that I am targetting right now. Offline optimization. My site is pretty well defined and user friendly. I am talking about keywords keeping SERP in mind. Thanks!
Hello Janna! Thanks! Can you also tell me why? I am looking for not only the answer but the reason as that would help me better understand it!! z
..or you can put a phrase in your anchor text... e.g. Online Vegetable Store, Buy Vegetables Online...
I use multiple keyword phrases for a page. For example....anchor text like cheap pianos best price pianos buy pianos low price pianos would all point to a page that sell pianos. If all you anchor text are the same then I think good starts to discount the value of the links. IMO
What is a long tail strategy? Can you explain a bit more? DepotGang: Thanks! So that means if all my anchor text are same then that means Google will penalize me!
The point is mainly that your link-profile should look 'natural'. This means that there should not be (say) more then 50% of the links to your site with precisely the same link-text. If you are thinking of buying 10 links, having them have the same link-text should be fine. But if you buy 100 links, make sure the link-text varies.
Well, in his case, because he is already ranking - it does make sense to focus the efforts on trying to get from top 5 to top listing... Still, that's likely to be difficult. People's knee jerk reaction is to diversify, because it's just plain hard to move up from no.5 to no.1 in most competitive niches. It's far easier to move up into top 10 for a number of 'long tail' phrases. google 'long tail' for what that means.
