Interesting belief that Yahoo should, and possibly will, outsource its search to Google. Hey, if you can't beat em, join em! http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=6097
They used to use google seacrch in the past.... if you went from showing in google you went off the yahoo listings as well *sigh*
well yahoo is not really a search engine its a directory. I think Yahoo is hurting pretty bad. I set up yahoo adwords for a friend of mine, it was a local business and i think we put max $3 a day or something like that. A few days(maybe a week) later they gave us a call to discuss how we can improve positioning and stuff. I think I spent about 40 minutes on the phone with the lady. Not that i didn't appreciate the call or anything, it just makes me think of how hurting it must be for them. According to Alexa Yahoo is still number 1 in the States, compared to Google at number 3(msn is in the middle of the 2). It beats me why, I never use Yahoo, ever, and surprises me that its still in the top 3 sites(It surprises almost as much as seeing stats for my domains and find out that most of my visitors are still using IE as appose to Firefox!!) .
The vast majority of internet users still use IE, because it is preinstalled and what most ISP software supports. I used to work at a company and to use our portal we had to use IE, but not IE7
Nope, yahoo should stay on its own feet! Google don't provide all the answer. When google don't give what we want, most of us would goto yahoo and do search there. Diversity is much more preffered. That the reason why people hate IE so much because of its dominant and not for its stability/security problems, Just like what firefox has done to Microsoft IE got a bite on its ass and built a better IE7. Hopefully it does the same with yahoo, instead of admiting defeat to the competition they should rise up and eat the competition. Yahoooooooo
There have been times I found something valuable on yahoo that was'nt even listed on google. But google is still superior on most searches. IMO
You are right about you not using it as it's not a directory anymore. It started up as a directory and then went into search I think and now it's more of a portal where it has news, financial information, search, a directory, games, etc. Yahoo is very popular and will most probably stay this way for years to come unless something disastrous happens. I never hardly use them either, but I have found that they offer some really good stuff when it comes to finance. Also their games are good and the way you can chat as well while playing the games. Theres things like that which will keep people coming to the site. A majority of the search users are probably mainly at the site for the games, finance, etc and then decide to do a search or two while they are there.
I think Yahoo became complacent. It really is amazing how Google caught on so fast in the late 90's. Google was a buzzword early on, maybe they got some great marketers. I do wonder if Yahoo will have to PAY Google to use their search.
NO WAY. Yahoo is never gonna claim back its share of the market if it did that! id like to see yahoo win its share of the market back and become the market leader once again. if only to bring google down a peg or two
I hope not. Google is my 1st choice, but sometimes find info on yahoo that google does not show at all.
well, I would say, they have already spent millions in research and started out with many of there venture, we cant hope they will outsource this stuff right now and act dumb
