Correctus, what Trevlar is saying is that all non-adult sites would have to pass some kind of test to make them certified as non-adult sites. Therefore every kids website, and every other type of website that is non-adult (i.e. news websites), would have to pass this test. Then adults would simply filter out any website that has not passed this test, in order to ensure that their kids don't view adult content.
I agree with trevlar, the .xxx idea was doomed to fail, and already has. The original proposal was to force adult sites to move to .xxx (created by a company with much to gain from the .xxx registrations). So which site gets the rights to .xxx? adult.com, adult.net, adult.org, ?? Who will police all these sites, sites overseas not bound by US laws, etc etc.. and who dictates WHAT is adult content? sex education, breast cancer discussions with <gasp> photos of real breasts, gay content, violent content, gross content. It's impossible to police all that and agree on an international standard that is "adult". Creating a safe harbor for kids with .kids and similar things is much easier to regulate. It's much easier to agree on what is 100% safe for kids, than what is inappropriate.
No, I don't think so. The internet should remain as unrestricted as possible. If you start to classify, stratify and segregate sites by way of content, what is next? Underground news sites that run stories debating or completely contrary to big-dollar mainstream media must be moved to another domain extension? How about any company that allows music to be downloaded from its site but is not a record manufacturer must be moved to another domain extension? This could go on and on. As opposed to asking a question and not providing your own opinion, why not state what you are in favor of and why.
They have to do with my knowledge of the subject, yes. I personally don't care about .xxx vs .com, but it doesn't make sense for business. There are easier, more effective ways to do it, if you were to educate yourself on the subject.
I think its a good idea if all the porn sites had a special address, but there are a few questions like. would those who currently have .com give it up for .sex and what would happend to the .com
There hasn't been a useful 'adult' rating system in the film industry for a hundred years - what makes you think they'd start something similar on the internet?
I think the simple answer is that it's a great idea in theory but we're too far down the line to be able to implement it successfully. There are too many issues that would complicate it and too many people and companies would not agree to it, plus it would be too difficult to legislate it.
I'm 100% for this, I'm also for offering adult sites compensation for switching to .xxx (based on how much the domain was worth to them before) I just think it makes things easier, if parents wanted to block porn all they'd need to do is block .xxx
I fail to see why anyone would want to restrict access to porn. It's the best thing in the world. And you can't get AIDS watching it.
LOL!! Next time I have an argument with a girl over whether or not porn is good, I will definately use that argument
