I have read that updating content frequently to rank in search engines is a myth.Is it true? There are many blogs or sites which havent been updated for months but still rank in first page in search results.I know that there are many things which go to get into first page of results. But you still feel that a small site or blog with say 5 pages can rank well if properly optimized but not updated for a some long time??Seo experts what u feel abt this?
Content is king, the more content you have the better chance you will have at getting organic traffic. Whoever told you that was a myth is silly, yes certain articles with tons of backlinks can still out rank new content, but usually it's not a revolving subject.
Should we update content? Yup, We must its becuase Google algorithm also is on content and not on back link alone.
We've had some good luck updating our content at least once a week. We've always had a small spike in traffic from it.
Yes always update with fresh content. And it matters Depending on your content of what you are posting. Some of the content can change on a monthly basis. Especially if it is a new relevant keyword or product. And yes sitemaps are useful but we are talking about content really.
According to a post a while back on the Matt Cutts blog, Google absolutely factors in frequency of updates into the search ranking algorithm. But ideally, you just build your web site for humans, not for search engines. If you build a site people like, the ideal search engine will like it too.
in my point of view content is important but there are thousands of site having top positions on search engines without any content on their home page
I know some here might kill me for saying this but from what my seo thinks a site map is more important than content as far as getting front page ranked well, but with more fresh content in the deeper pages u can get ranked well in longtail keywords, but to him content isnt king as far as ranking, its the strength of the links. I guess everyone has a different methodology as far as how they go about seo.
