The problem I find with Google is that it is not easy to trust them. Take the example of the proportion of keywords they are now hiding in Google Analytics or how quick they themselves have been to ban people on Adwords. While it is true that paying attention to their information releases could be helpful for a webmaster, I don't trust them either to hold their words. Moreover, Google is not perfect. The fact that people are able to rank on this search engine by using certain techniques is an evidence of that. Google wants people to write great content, but will that be enough for a blog owner to ensure he/she gets top ranking when there are only 10 spots on the first page? Are the 10 spots the best 10 pieces of content there is for any keyword? I don't think so. What do you think? Do you believe that Google has always been truthful and they can be relied on? Please share your thoughts.
Google are the dictators of internet marketing. They make rules to suit Google change rules to suit Google. They have a search engine monopoly. They say content is king so why are crap utube videos always (no matter what you search for) on the first page, is it due to their finger in pie technique
No way . If you want to play with Internet then you need Google . Sure you can avoid Google but most of the people use Google , So you will not get success in your business .
If you can't beat it you join it doesn't matter how it behaves it is still the boss of the internet - I think we should just play by its rules, be adaptable and flexible to adjust to circumstances
I don't disagree with your comment of course we need Google its the search engine monopoly what makes me laugh is content is king, if that is the case how does a half minute utube video get on to page 1 of Google. Where is the so called content in that?
In reality Google monopoly is really hurting!!! the internet and you definitely can not rely on it. Any youtube video good or bad is always first in the results, any big corporation can remove any site of the google search by just doing a DCMA complaint, it doesn't need for the site to be penalized or something.!!! I personally use a mixture of search engines rather than one and I have much better results like that. Is not that popular yet but it will soon be, since Google is just coming up just with the same big sites every time.
A very good question. Google now is a monopoly. They manage almost anything in the web....we hope it would be managed good but the doubt is if this will continue to be this way.....
yes google virtually has monopoly in search engine market but why should it bother us?its easy to get traffic from google than from other SE so as far as I am concerned i m happy with google being market leader
Are you serious...? Them not having competition screws every single one of us webmasters in so many ways. They can almost completely control us, make or break our careers and then there's Adsense. No competition for them means they can control the prices and give us what they want to give us and we just have to except it. In the over 400 sites I have built, every one of them was harder to get ranking in Google. Even as far as ranking for domain. Google just gets almost all the search traffic and is almost every webmasters main source of traffic (aside from social networking, and paid advertising). Very good point. and that drives me nutz as a search user. I don't want to see a boat load of videos when I do a search unless i search for a song title or add the word video to my query. That's one more thing I mean by they have too much control. They manipulate the search results for their own products/services/sites and fight spam but only they are allowed to spam. At this point in time though, we have to deal with it and work around it. So "F" it =)
Remember people, its not your right to use Google's services. They are a private company that provides a great service. If they want to ban questionable websites from Adsense, good for them. If they update their algorithm which drops good sites from the top rankings, well they can do that too. If you don't like Google or their services, don't use them. They don't owe you anything as a webmaster. They only owe their search customers great results. And remember, if you don't want to do business with them there are millions of other people waiting to take your spot. Stop trying to fight the "machine" that Google is, and focus on doing the right things. If you follow the rules, Google is your friend. If you take the easy road, they are not your friend. I have been using Adsense for years without a single problem, because I understand that I am using their services, but they do not need me to provide their services.
I agree with you 99% there. Even though it's one of the first things people say about people having a discussion about being unhappy with Google. They are not perfect and there is no reason to not talk about a concerning issue just because they don't owe us anything. The other one percent is my dissatisfaction with search results. I too use their services, Adsense, and have for more than 6 years. I agree they don't owe us anything, just unhappy with search results sometimes (as a user not a webmaster) and seems to be more lately. -- -- Edit: Don't take my comment the wrong way. It's not to start an argument or to say you're wrong.
I get what you are saying. I think competition from Bing and other search engines will have to have an impact though. People look at Google as a monopoly in search and web services but it is far from that. The customers determine who gets business. If Google is lacking in good search experiences then you may see Bing or Yahoo take more of the market eventually. However, while Google enjoys the power of being on top, it also has some downsides that can hurt them. If every webmaster specifically targets search results on your network, it's going to be hard to dig through the junk to get great results. Every kid in their basement is trying to find ways they can get their crap site on the first page to make money off Google. And they do succeed, which is why Google has to change things so often. They are trying to give you great results but they are the target of more and more methods to get crappy sites listed as good sites.
Think it that way.If google had competition we would have to optimise our site for two or more search engines rather than just one.I think that would have been much harder for us.
I agree. My main concern is them giving their own sites top positions, like what I mentioned about the videos. I don't think they are lacking in search experience, especially compared to their competitors lol I been noticing a lot lately that searches I make are not showing good results IMO they just seem to be showing products for sale and youtube videos first and more. When I am researching something or trying to learn how to do something, I usually switch over to bing to do my searches.
If that were true and people could get a lot more traffic for a little more work (optimizing for another search engine), believe me they would do it. Why wouldn't they to get more traffic and earn more money...? Besides, most SE's use pretty much the same methods, standards, or whatever anyway - meta tags, backlinks, text content... Google being the most advanced of course.
They would infact get less traffic because total traffic will always remain the same only source of traffic would be divided in to two.It would be hard for them to get top rank for same keyword in two different SE
You bring up a good point but I still think Google having competition would be better for all of us. Not just with their SE. I wouldn't mind having to optimize for 2 SE's, though I don't think there would be a difference, because personally I would like to see better results and have a choice of which search engine I think is better for me. Plus, maybe if they had some competition the would have to listen to us (search users) and actually here what we would like and want to see in search results, not what they want us to like and see.
