Should we optimize older posts or write new post to rank a set of keywords?

    Hi everyone!

On our blog, we used to have one particular post ranked very high for a set of keywords, the post is two years old, and the ranking dropped. We updated several times in the past months, but the rank doesn't seem to be recovering.

Can anyone help us with the follow questions:

1- to rank or keep ranking a particular keyword, does Google like older, ranked posts to be updated often, or Google just prefer new posts?

2- we tried to optimize our older, ranking blog posts at least once a month, and changing H2 tags, keyword density, deleted outdated information, and added new information. Is this the best way to do it, or there is a better way to do so?

3- is there a source or guideline for updating older posts?

Thank you for your help and suggestion in advance!

    Jay

Google doesn't care about old posts. If its outdated in terms of your niche then just dont't update them its completely unnecessary.

Make a new post and mention the changes you observed during your post getting older. It is better to make updation in the websites but if you update your older posts then it would be difficult to rank those posts for the same keywords, again.
If you write the new post with the changes you have observed and compare those changes, so your users like that post and Google also like the new post with fresh and quality content.
    It is my opinion.
