We often hear news about Google especially when Google updates PR or change algorithm. We SEOs have tendency to follow Google but Google follows whom? Google follows authority sites without doing even basic SEO. I have seen how .gov and .org sites don't have basic sense of Google compliance guidelines yet they rank pretty well and even in some cases, better than a highly optimized site. Writing from meta tags to site map implementation, from link building to forum, directories, bookmarking, etc, we sometimes over-follow Google. Do we need that? Does Google really care? Are we wearing 100% white hat?
