How do the old ones work? For instance im going to try and update my sitemap once a week or twice a month depending on changes. Do i delete the old ones in google webmaster? What about the html version? Might be dumb questions but i dont know the answers. Just trying to get my sites up to code
New sitemap files uploaded and using the same name as the old file would cause Google to update their list. The only last step would be to ping Google with the location of your sitemap file again... kind of a "Hey, it's over here!" thing. There is no need to use different file names, canceling the old info, and all of that trouble.
i have uploaded xml sitemap to my webmasters account but i have made that xml file on one online tool that site provide 500 url s only now my site s volume is extended with more than 500 url how can i update my xml sitemap file ?
Google automatically download your sitemap every week or so . If you specify the last updated date and time in your sitemap, google check to see the site have been updated or not since last download. So update the date and time in your sitemap. And specify the sitemap file in robots.txt file.
You should keep the same file name (i.e. sitemap.xml or sitemap.xml.gz) and create a new one every ~2 weeks. Just FTP it to your domain's root and Google will do the rest. Also, I would recommend that you set up and use the Google Webmaster account. It would help you greatly.
