Should the legal age for drinking in the USA be lowered?

I wondered what you all thought.
I say leave it the same as kids even younger say at age 18 are even more un-responsible in my opinion. This does not go for everyone though.
    I don't drink....

You can go to war and die for your country but can't drink a beer legally?

In the UK you have to be 18 to purchase beer, but I do have a feeling that it's going to shoot up to 21 soon.

I could remember when you were allowed to smoke here in the UK at the age of 16, that was sooner raised to 18.

You have a good point...it is odd that people can vote, go to war, and generally be considered an adult at 18, but can't legally drink. Seems strange, but drinking is stupid anyway, so I don't mind it. Actually, I wouldn't mind if they raised it...Tomorrow will be my 21st birthday and I don't drink, so my party won't be a typical college party, at least not for my school.

In India there is no age limit i think.. It's only on books of law..

As far as I am concerned legal limit should be atleast 18...

In Canada, its 19 in most provinces and 18 in others. I believe if you can vote and elect someone to represent you and your country, you should be empowered enough to buy cigarettes and alcohol.

Though Drinking is okay to be at 21..

But for Army you need young and fresh legs..

18 would be good.. if it's 21 they may move away from joining in Army..

I think the legal age for drinking in the US should not be lowered
because there are too many accidents which result from younger
    people drinking and driving.

I don't think they will lower it. There is more drinking now in the united states of the ages between 18-21 that when they changed the law. To many young people was killed back then to driving and drinking or overdose of drinking so i can't see it happen.

I think they should.. the legal age of drinking is 16 in The Netherlands (at least it was when I was that age) and it has only made me stay away from drinking. Everybody is doing it, it's not cool because it's legal. I think the lower age is actually preventing people from doing it.

Its 18 in this country and is pretty much fine. I live in England BTW.

I think 21 is a bit harsh, after all you can drive a car at 16 in USA (killing machine) and also join the army (even more killing machines) so i think 18 year olds should be given the responsibility to drink too.

If you are in uniform most places will let you drink without checking ID..

So yes, you can drink at 18 IF you are willing to go to war and die for your country.. But not if you just want to hang out with your buddies and get trashed on weekends..

    Seems fair to me..

The legal age for drinking should be lowered everywhere. The countries with high rates of alcoholism, alcohol-related crime, and other drinking problems, tend to be the countries where it's most restricted. In France, where children are encouraged to drink some wine (usually well diluted with water) they don't have these problems nearly as much, because young adults are used to drinking and handle it much better and more responsibility. The sure way to have problems with something is to try to restrict it. Just my perspective. Drinking isn't a problem - it's binge-drinking that's the problem, and the less restricted access to alcohol is, the less binge-drinking you get.
