Should site be hosted in same country as domain extension?

I have .ca domains and .co.uk domains - should I host them in their respective countries for good SEO? I want the sites to show up in organic searches in the respective local countries...

    Thanks

If you are looking to geo targeting the seo for those domains than it is recommended.

Unless it's some type of top secret Google algorithm to penalize sites that aren't, then no, it shouldn't matter what country you host your sites in, relative to the extension.
