Personally I think the right looks much better.. But if you're looking to generate advertisement revenue from your website, then the traits of the human mind suggest that using the left for your sidebar is the better option.. I'm not sure I buy that though, personally im drawn to the right.. Chuckun
if you want something different to catch peoples attention then left. otherwise, right and make sure to have your opt in box on the right.
I think it depends on what you want the reader to see first. If it is the sidebar, then put it on the left. If it's the content of the article/post put that on the left. I'm basing this on the right that we read from left to right.
I go for the right. When users arrive to your site, the first things that they look is at from : top-donw, left to right. In this case I would have the visitors to look first at images, not a link menu. ~Mike
Depends. If you want visitors to go to the categories first, go for left. If you want them to head for the images, go for right. BTW, if you take ad placement into consideration, ads that are placed on the left work better than ads on the right, for the same reason. On my comics site I usually put the sidebar on the right, since I want people to focus on the comic images first, and then see what's on the sidebar (on the sidebar I usually put subscription links, archive links, etc.)
