I've just been reading the FAQ from AdSense regarding the video ads and was interested by this question and answer: Ok - what surprised me a little was that there are two types of 'clicks' on video ads. One type starts the ad and the other takes the viewer of the ad to the Advertisers landing pad. Only one type of click (the one that goes to the advertisers landing page) generates publishers income (when in contextual mode). So as publishers we get nothing if an ad is just watched. I'm a little torn by this: On one hand this is no different to text ads in CPC mode which only convert if there is a click. On the other hand I have to wonder whether a video ad is perhaps more powerful and able to communicate an advertisers message more fully within the ad. Video ads can be up to two minutes long - that's two minutes to communicate quite a bit about their company, brand and heighten awareness of their company. Shouldn't an advertiser have to pay for that? It would be a little like a TV station only charging for ad space when viewers of ads actually respond by going into a retail store. Like I say I'm a bit torn - I can see why they've done it but can't help but feeling a little ripped off - especially as there is no way to opt out of these ads without also opting out of image ads. Interested in others perspectives.
I haven't seen these ads yet, anybody have a page that get these? But as far as Im concerned I think this is much like the CPM feature in the text ads, since it is new right now they are probably testing it like this but later on they might start paying per play. Emil
lots of visitors like to click on "Click to Play" button, but not waiting for the ads until it's finish play up, including me, i just leave the ads playing and navigate around, if that's the case, what would that ads convert to??
Yeah - the anecotal evidence that I've seen when I've used video is that people tend to click play out of curiosity and then don't take much more action. I guess this is something AdSense wouldn't want either as it would produce paid clicks that are curiosity clicks rather than genuine ones - leaving advertisers paying for things they don't get anything out of.... hmmm - still not sure that this is an ad format that is particularly weighted in the favor of publishers.
Yea i can see why you would be torn by this...I mean i say one of those video ads i also just click on it to see what it was about, but that was it. I can see where your coming from OZIII. The advertiser would be losing money becasue like you said thier would be alot of curious clickers...However, I think you could convert most of these curious clickers user for the first few months since it would be something new.... Well I hope later they would pay for the clicks wow could really make some dough
That's the best idea I heard all day. Now how can we make AdsenseAddict CEO of Google so he can implement the payout changes..
Personally I hate the idea of video ads being played on my sites. I could like the idea better at a dollar a second, though.
Not seen the video ads yet. But unless the per click pay is high I dont think I am going to enable video ads on my site. Dunno what these video ads are allowed to have. If someone just talks about his company I doubt anyone will click on it. But the advertiser then uses my site for free to get some brand awareness.
