Should people be restricted on what they search

After AOL released search data, it was identified that people were searching for queries like ways to kill their wives, ways to commit a murder, etc. I cannot see a practical way of doing this, and also it might be restricting one's freedom of access and their way of life. But it just goes to show there are some real freaks out there.

Yeah true, but searching on a certain topic doesn't mean that person is going to actually commit the act. I can search about firefighting, then arson, then how to burn a building down. To someone reviewing my search records I may look like a threat. But if they look a little deeper they may find that I was simply doing research for a book I'm writing.

True. But I am sure a few of those people had dark motives.

I'd be completely against this. Damn censorship. Plus, most of my friends search for random, offencive, potentially dangerous stuff on Google all the time but would never dream of doing them.

When you search in Google, do you tell it your gender and age?

The assumption is that if AOL didn't tell them how to kill their wife, they wouldn't have figured it out on their own
