Should my blog be part of my e-commerce site?

I have an e-commerce site and also have an under used blog that we use to link to products for SEO purposes. The blog is currently hosted by google blogs.

To make the most of SEO oportunity of the blog (linking out to products in my online store) is it better to have the blog on a different URL and server or should I tranfer the blog from google and intergrate it as an addon Wordpress blog into my e-commerce site on the same server?

If you buy a new domain it'll be listed in the whois, and it might seem quite obvious that the two websites connect. I do well with a blog listed as "/blog". It has been so difficult to get quality or natural backlinks lately it almost makes sense to blog again.
Of course that is my opinion and it works for more then a few sites I promote.

I have done what you are asking on a couple of my websites. I have always believed that when you start a website you should start a blog to go with it. I don't think it is really important if the blog is hosted someplace free like blogger or if it at WP with a domain name. I have done both and they are equally successful. I use the blog as the news side of my topic. Any new news or blog-worth articles go to the blog which does link to my site. Keep in mind though that it is important to continue to update your main site as well. A blog and a website can work well together. I would recommend hosting the blog on a different webhost if you are using WP or another domain name based system.

Here is an example of how I have done this:

    Main Site - www.bbq-festivals.com
    Blog Site - www.bbqhub.com

Last piece of advice. Don't use your blog just as a source of links to your site. Provide quality content that complements your site and then you have a dual presence in the net.

Hope this helps........ good luck and keep us up to date on your project.

i would put the blog in the ecommerce domain as well. It will probably rank higher and faster for keywords and you can use it to bring up the ranking of other pages in the online store
