Hi everyone, I wanted to see your thoughts on Michael Clarke and his possible captaincy after Pointing retires from Test or is dropped from captaincy. I personally believe the public does not like him enough, he doesn't have that stern look about him, that never die attitude like Pointing, Waugh, Border had etc. He definitely shouldn't be captain of T20 for sure. Recent polls in The Age and Herald Sun, show that in both cases, around 90% do not want him as the next captain. So why do we dislike Clarke so much? He has a great batting average, and has proven to be consistent in most series(forgive this one), and has been vice captain for some time. I guess my personal view, is that when you are brandishing a sports car, model (former) girlfriend, and participating in ads showing nothing but your jocks, I guess doesn't appeal very well to the average cricket lover. I know alot of captains (including the current), are sponsored by just about every type of brand these days, but pushing tablets vs pushing "Show us your dongle and show us your abs" type ads are different if you know what I mean. I guess the question is, who else then Clarke? I personally think Tim Paine or Cameron White. However they are not ready now, so I think if Pointing does captain for the next year or more, or even up to 2013 ashes campaign in england, then by then, the likes of White or Paine, would be ready. If Pointing looses it or gives it up after WC, then surely the likes of established inform leaders like Hussey or Haddin should be given the go until the likes of Paine or White can take over. Anyway, thats just my thoughts, let me know what you think.
Clarke does not have a captaincy tricks and his lead is poor!! Give a chance for Cameron white!! he may be do the best
Well its been a few since I originally posted this thread, but it seems the question is almost irrelevant now, Whitey captaining the 20/20 is long overdue too. So now after the ashes disaster, should not only he be not considered for captaincy, but perhaps dropped from the team altogether?
The captain in cricket has little overall effect on the game in the big scheme of things. The over riding effect of the Ashes series was simply that the Aussies just weren't near enough good enough.
Why not choose Mr. Cricket (Hussey) ? We all know that he is a natural fighter and have always performed under pressure, so I think if given an opportunity he could be a brilliant leader.
