Should Keyword always be associated w/home page?

I want to focus on the keyword 'celebrity gossip' for the site in my sig. The site is PR 6 and most my current backlinks are to the homepage. So if I am buying sigs or paying others to comment can I kill two birds with one stone and have my keyword 'celebrity gossip' with link = homepage/category/celeb-gossip? Or does my link need to be = homepage? Is my question understandable?

    Thanks for reading!

You can use and target any keyword for home page as well as inner pages of the site.
    Absolutely no problems.

For more competitive keywords it is almost always easiest to use your homepage. Nearly all websites have the most links pointing to their homepage. So it is usually the strongest page on a website. Of course you can only target so many phrases with your homepage, because you'll still want each keyword in important areas on the site...title, meta description, etc.

You can target other keywords with internal pages, but it can be a bit more challenging as internal pages sometimes only have links from within your website.
