People have different opinions about this, but let me qoute the constitution of US: So before liberals blame Bush for ruining the constitution, they should watch their own opinions. Liberals like Michael Moore are against the constitution, yet.. he is taken with respect by most people.
Ah huh latehorn.. and how about those of us who care about ALL of the ammendments and don't selectively choose which ones to give a shit about.. BTW most dems and repubs do just that.. I am also pro 2nd ammendment, I don't own a gun but believe there is already to much control on gun ownership..
Correction: he is taken with respect by a very few loud mouth people. Many from his own side know his is lying, breathing hot air, and did a lot of editing to make things appear a certain way. So when they find that out they don't really have respect for him, but they don't care if he is lying to further their cause. I don't own a gun but I sure can if I want to. Now, should a known criminal be allowed to buy one? no way. they lose rights when breaking laws or killing/ hurting people.
I have 2 bear arms hanging in my room. I feel sorry for that armless bear running around the woods. Wait, no I don't
I can see why it's important to the US peeps, but I'm glad that we don't have public guns in the UK, and everyone's happy with it really. I voted anyway to screw up your poll
I actually do own a gun, but it only shoots paintballs at the moment. Maybe I need to do some modifications to shoot at blitz in the UK. LOL Is there hunting using rifles in the UK or what is the alternative to that? I thought you guys like to hunt foxes while riding horseback with your nose in the air? or is that a misconception based on stereotypes?
Are there liberals like Michael Moore out there? I know a lot of liberals, none of them are like Moore. Moore is also not 'taken with respect by most people', unless you are lumping conservatives into that generalization? I don't know how they take him personally, but the liberals I know 'take him with a grain of salt'. Sort of the same approach one must take when viewing FOX news
I don't mind either way, but let me point out one key word: MILITIA The amendment was created in respects to Militias, which were used back in those days for security. They were basically the "national guard" if you will. If you want to get ultra technical, regular civilians no longer posses that right since we no longer utilize, deploy or create militias. The argument can be solved by changing the constitution to either state that civilians are allowed to possess firearms or not.
A few years ago, after a mad gunman massacred a bunch of people at a tourist resort, the leader of Australia decided to ban the personal posession of all weapons. There were exemptions for sporting shooters and rural folk who realy needed them for vermin control. The government bought all the surplus weapons and destroyed them which basically cleaned out a huge national armory. Now we have a country with reduced violent crime and one of the most popular leaders ever.
There's already far too much gun control, one of the few times I can be thankful for living in Phoenix is when I feel like buying, selling or trading another firearm....
On the point about Militia, some areas (usually deep-rural) still do have small groups of gung-ho, self proclaimed militia running around. These are exactly the people I'd personally prefer don't have firearms. As for overall gun control, I tend to split with most liberals on this. Gun control is a silly concept to me that only regulates lawful gun owners and does nothing what so ever to address the big picture of gun violence. Canada seems to have a huge per person ratio of gun owners yet very little gun violence to my knowledge. That suggests to me that people control is the real issue.
Everyone should be allowed to own guns unless they are felons, or mentally unstable. There should be no restrictions on the types of guns owned, so that includes automatic weapons.
So are cars, cigarettes, alcohol, aspirine. Items that do not help guarantee our country remains as it was meant to be, as it was founded on. Shall we ban those items as well?
In my country , People cannot have a gun . This is good because otherwise crime rate would be very high.
Many countries in where it's allowed to have guns have a very low crime rate. The problems aren't the guns, since you can use other tools to kill a person you don't like, such as knifes(including butterknifes of wood). Hrblcantra made a great point. There's lots of other things that can cause peoples death. In China, the government makes propaganda statements such as "The censorship laws are good for people overall health", which is true, because negative news can give people heart attacks.
