Should I wait on this site?

I have a site that's about 5 weeks old and basically it's not a blackhat site or anything, but it was getting a top ranking about 2 weeks after it was listed then it got sandboxed for about 2 weeks and disappeared. Then it reappeared on #1 again for a few days and now it's disappeared again.

Has anyone had this happen to them?

Should I just wait again or should I try and redesign the site?

    Thanks

What do you means with "disappeared" ? Have you try search your domain url at Google ?
In my opinion there is no correlation between website design with google sandbox (except you violating google TOS).. so why wait ?

Well to go from #1 to not listed within the first 10 pages, and back to #1 and then disappearing from the first 10 pages again to me it's "disappeared". I know it's there somewhere in Google, but if you're not on the 1st or 2nd page what does it matter. I'm more concerned about the dramatic differences. And by wait I mean should I try and change it or should I wait and see if it comes back. Thus the question.

I hardly think a new site can be listed on the 1st page of serp.
Bring more backlinks, and I think your site will come back to the first page.
