    I'm starting a project though finding theme is hard most nice themes are $200++ :mad:

    wonder if it's better to wait for D7 release or start the project now? :confused:

    Drupal 6 is stable enough to use. Most theme also support Drupal 6. Waiting for Drupal 7 just make your project prolong meaninglessly. Plus upgrading the Drupal is easy. :cool:

    yeah I would say start with D6, Just make sure any Modules you use plan on providing drupal 7 support at launch (if you plan on upgrading right away) and as far a themes being 200+, Uhhh yeah don't pay for drupal themes, Just find a basic one that is easy to use and customize it, just make sure any changes to the CSS you make are only changed in your local directory so you can update the theme without worrying about lossing your changes.

    It is not always expedient to use the Newest release of any application. Drupal 6 is very stable with lots of really great contributed modules. If I were you, I would develop you website fully with Drupal 6 and when it looks like Drupal 7 is completely stable and the modules you use are updated, then do a full migration.

    As modules and other updates are built, you will have the option to install updates on each module as they are released. I generally go with the recommended releases and do not get involved much with the development releases as they contain bugs that need to be fixed before it is ready for stable recommendation.

    It's looking like it's gonna be a looong time before D7 is finally released. It's already way behind schedule. I'd go for D6 now.

    It would be ideal if you use D6 which is stable, Try using D7 on a subsite for testing purpose only.

    Drupal 7 is days away now.

    It depends on what modules you want to use w/ Drupal. Some modules aren't D7 ready, and sometimes they lag releasing a D7 mod, even after D7 is out.

    If you are going to use something like Ubercart or e-Commerce, I would go with D6 because it will be much more secure, and have a wider mod offering.

    I normally wait a few months after a Drupal release, when I see that most of the good SEO mods have made their respective releases, before I install a new Drupal release.

    Here is why you should start your project with drupal 6 :

    1. Almost all modules are supported.
    2. The most stable release.
    3. Many theme are available for free.
    4. It will prevent the delay in your project.
    5. Drupal 6 to Drupal 7 conversion is possible.

    yes, even if the thread wasn't 6 months old and even knowing that Drupal 7 beta 1 is now available, I would still say: for sure do it with drupal 6. Drupal 7 is going to be awesome, but we have time!

    My advice regarding which version of Drupal to use is the same for most any software. Use the most stable and broadly supported version.

    The power of Drupal comes from its extensibility via the various contributed modules. You're going to get the most bang out of D6 because of the huge number of stable modules available for it. I am running three Drupal 6 sites and will upgrade to Drupal 7 when all of the modules I currently use have stable Drupal 7 releases.

    There is no reason to delay the site.

    As for themes, there are tons of contributed themes that are absolutely free. Many of them offer a range of customization options that don't require any knowledge of php, html or css. Of course if you want a highly customized theme for your site, you'll probably have to pay for it, but I'd advise checking out the available free themes to see if any of them will meet your needs before making a decision to pay for one, particularly if money is tight. That said, $200 is not a lot of money to spend on a polished and professional design for your website.

    It's not beta anymore, it's rc since 1st december. For sure there is going to be a rc2 in a few days and then perhaps the final release.

    There is now beta of Drupal 7 , so u can try it but if you want to wait for final release i think you should wait some more days/month. but keep it your mind that if u want to install drupal 7 in your computer u must complete list of requirements. Please read the complete list of requirements.

    * Database: MySQL 5.0.15 or PostgreSQL 8.3
    * PHP Version 5.2 or higher
    * PHP Memory: 40M - 64M
    Do you think u have all of it :)

    I'd suggest you use the latest RC and use only in localhost (Setup up everything). Then upgrade until it is out of testing, Then switch it to a live environment.
