Hello could someone please help me decide. Wondered if anyone could tell me if it is better to use posts or pages on a hosted wordpress site. I plan to offer a few differant ebooks in the same niche and in the past have always used posts. However, on my new site I was thinking of going with pages as I am not sure if they rank better. Thank you
A post = a blog post and therefore will stack on top of one another to create a blog, also pushing the content on your posts to your Rss feed. A page = a static page and does not change, just remains static. I believe your best bet to rank well is to use both, one of the benefits of a post is the fact that you can set up the search engine friendly(sef) url to reflect categories (set to /%category%/%postname%/ in Custom Structure under the Permalinks menu) like this yourdomain.com/category/sub-category/post-name/ where as a page will only show up yourdomain.com/page-title. I like to keep my simple pages as a static page /about/ /contact/ etc. and make a post for everything else. This way you can start to categorize all of your content, remember to download the Platinum SEO Pack and set the plugin to "nofollow" the category and tag pages to avoid the classic duplicate content issue that WordPress comes with by default.
I agree. If you are talking strictly about SEO I suppose it posts are better, although with a good SEO plugin such as the one Jonathon mentioned above or some others that area avail.. I think you would be okay even using pages only.
