Should I Use Local or Non-Local Targeted Keywords

    Hi,

I'm building a new website for my own writing business. It's just me, one person, no staff.

It's writing, so I really don't care where my work comes from. I'm based in Chicago, but I can work with clients from anywhere. This is the web afterall.

The question I have is with choosing keywords for my site, especially Page Title Keywords. For example, do I go with Writing Service or Chicago Writing Service? Freelance Writer or Freelance Writer Chicago?

I believe search engines often show local listings at the top of searches anyway, but would I be better off in terms of competing for business and hoping to eventually rank if I go the local/geo route?

If I don't include Chicago, I'm competing with writing services from everywhere, correct? I can work with people from anywhere, but what are my chances of being found in search anytime soon?

I hope this makes sense. And, I hope someone here can enlighten me.

    Thanks

I would go with the local keywords, or find other long tail keywords that you could have an easier time ranking for.
Something like "article writing service" would be easier to rank for instead of "writing service".

I would like to say that which is your target area you focus that keywords if you are doing your business locally you can focus on your local keywords.
    Thanks
