I've been trying to figure out if using an address as a H2 header tag on the homepage is an effective way of coming up in the targeted local search results? What are your thoughts? Currently we have an H2 header tag around our address http://www.jvfconsulting.com should I remove this header tag?

I wouldn't bother with wrapping your local info in header tags. To get more local traffic, use structured formatting (microformats). And create a Google Places page. Google announced their Rich Snippets program for local search earlier a few months ago, and it's been very effective for me. maps.google.com/help/maps/richsnippetslocal/

Also, look at submitting your site to as many local directories as you can. UniversalBusinessListings.org is a great local directory that will submit your site to a ton of locally relevant directories. The key is that your local info (phone, address, etc) needs to be consistent across all of your sources. Those consistencies and the number of citation you have from quality sources will help improve your visibility for locally targeted searches.
