Should I use 3.8.5 or 4.0.3?

    here is the story,

I purchased vb license few days back, I am facing some issues while importing attachments from mybb to vbulletin, so I havent transformed my forums yet. Meanwhile, doing some research, I found some people prefering to stay with 3.8.5, since they feel that 4.x is bit buggy.

I was wondering if 4.x is any better for SEO [except URL rewrite]. I dont have a vbSEO license right now, but will be getting in in couple of months after watching the performance of the forum.

Also, in future, when I decide to move to 4.x, how hard is it?

I am good with server side scripting [not expert].

What do you think? Any advise would be appreciated.

I would stick with 3.8 a little while longer
    upgrades are easy
    imports are fairly easy

3.8 is just the old vBulletin, go with 4 if you want to start out......get to know it. vB4 is pretty good right now.

    Okay,
I just want to point out to be aware of asking for opinions on this matter as there are some people out there who are still disgruntled with things other than forum software with internet brands and as such because they didn't upgrade either by not being able to afford it due to the price increase or because they thought it was too buggy and have stuck with that stance since.

I would advise you to weigh up what is best for your site/community.

While we know that 3.8.5 goes weel it still has it's limitations etc, if you need a front page to your forums/communities I would say go with 3.8.5 and Wordpress or something with the users etc bridged... If you however just need the community I would really suggest going with 4.0.3.

I would say 4.0.3 for just forums because the software is competent to do so, and the new stylevars system (that alot of people whinge about because they want just limited changes to make whereas the new system allows you to change many more template orientated things) will allow you to make changes far beyond what vb3.8.5 can and helps you to really customize the look and feel of the site.

At the end of the day it is ultimately up to you.
