Currently I am using vbulletin 3.6.8 and am happy with it. Now I want to add a blog to my site. However, I am not sure what I should do - should I upgrade to vbulletin 4 and use the integrated blog or use Wordpress to make the blog? My 4 main concerns are: - is vbulletin's blogging platform as SEO friendly as Wordpress? - is vbulletin's blogging platform as user friendly as Wordpress? - is it easy to place ads in vbulletin's blogging platform as in Wordpress? - does vbulletin 4 still have lot of bugs? Cost is not a concern. Thanks .
Template structure Remains the the same for Vb4 Too! If You know integrating ads to Vb 3.x , You can Do the Same In Vb4. But, What you should look onto is, There isnt Much Mods available to Vb4, Since it is very new! ~ExP~
I don't have any mods except maybe 1-2. I have still using the default template. I just changed the colors. .
Even i wouldnt care about the cost myself. If you want to upgrade, make sure you do preserve the URL and titles, if not it might take long time to get back your rankings from google. Be prepared to do lots of modding when you upgrade. i am never a fan of vbulletin blogging but, if you want to setup blog, just go on with wordpress - because nothing can match it. With that being said, its just my personal opinion.
I haven't used Wordpress so, unfortunately, I can't say much on the comparison. But I can say that the blogging software is user friendly, and that I am a big fan of VB4
- is vbulletin's blogging platform as SEO friendly as Wordpress? Yes - is vbulletin's blogging platform as user friendly as Wordpress? Yes - is it easy to place ads in vbulletin's blogging platform as in Wordpress? Very simple, Use Vbulletin.org for mods - does vbulletin 4 still have lot of bugs? Still have some bugs, but in each software there are bugs
I run an active big board with vbulletin blog. See my profile on vb.com or vb.org if you want to get an idea about me, as Im still a newbie here. 1. Certainly not 2. No. WP is much more matured. vb Blog is still in its early stage, as it has received few updates after first release. 3. Yes 4. Over 1.700 Mind that vb blog misses a lot of functionality for staff. You can not move to forum from blog. You can not make category selection mandatory. Adding categories to a number of blogs is nothing short of hellish. There are no category permissions. No category moderators. Inline moderation is extremely limited. So for now WP is best. But if you expect that vb blog will be improved by IB, then it may be an idea to consider to use vb blog even though its not perfect now. Unlike DP, I have not upgraded to vb4 yet, and it will take a while before I would consider it.
Hi sachin04, Before you upgrade to vBulletin 4, ask yourself, do you have a lot of modifications? If yes, make sure you have updates for those. vBulletin is not known for their blogging system. I barely get any traffic on my very active vbulletin blog. So I wouldn't worry to much about the blog seo system. My personal opinion, yes, very. To make it more user friendly, I've added "image icons" along with the navigation to optimize it for people who have ADD. Yes, very easy. They have a system where it can automatically implement your google ads for you. Yes, but very minor ones. The major ones have been fixed. Anyways the blog system for vb4 is very easy to customize and use once you get the hang of it. I own a vb4 forum and I can attest to the friendly user friend control panel. If you have any customization questions, just go to their official websites vbulletin.com or vbulletin.org. You will most likely find great help there.
It's really just preference more than anything... if you like how vBulletin blogs work, go for it. If not, use WordPress. Personally I like vB's blog platform, but I'm pretty minimalistic... I hate too many bells and whistles. WordPress DOES do more, but the stuff it does, I don't care about, so...
There are 385 major bugs. This does include unconfirmed bugs. Im not sure if this works for you: tracker.vbulletin.com/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?mode=hide&requestId=10354 Otherwise check vbulletin.com its Jira tracker and search for all major, critical, blocker and showstopper bugs.
I run an active board with vB4. It does have some annoying bugs and isn't really as nice as vB3, but being an all new version it works well. Placing ads can be really easy depending what approuch you take.
IPB 3 was never this bug-loaded when it came out. Then again, they took their time. vBulletin without Kier Darby just doesn't seem like it has order. Have you tried IPB, MyBB, phpBB, or SMF? Give all four along with vBulletin 4 a fair option and see.
