Hi there, i´m new to this blog but i keep reading this forum a long time ago. So there is the deal: i want earn money (who doesnt? lol) with my blog. The niche is NOT good (actually many ppl HATE it) and right now it is hosted at wordpressDOTcom (yeah that sucks a lot, i cant use any kind of script). I am wondering to buy some good domain (maybe .net if there is no .com) and host my blog at hostgator (baby plan). Estimated cost: 10$/month My blog: http://cheatscs.wordpress.com/ Code (markup): The good news (despite the niche and subject) are: 3k traffic daily (mainly from Brazil and some random countries). PR3 and not a very good Alexa. Should i give a shot or will it not worth it? (i´ll invest too much for too less income)
yeah, you cant use adsense at wordpress, but once you move it over to hostgator, you will have no problem. take seconds with fantastico. why not try adsense, cant hurt. add some other affiliates to make a little more. im not affiliated with this site, but i buy my domains from cheapnames. they are cheaper on some. or google domains and you will get a coupon from godaddy for a cheaper domain. if all else fails, get a .info for 99 cents! i resell hostgator if you are doing just a blog. 50 bucks for a year. good luck. ps: it takes at least a week to be approved by google and they will look at your site to make sure its legit.
what will you lose if you dont' make money from it? Its free to register, you don't have to pay a dime. So other then copying and pasting the code to your site. What will you lose? I hate all these people coming in here asking if its worth it or not. Why not just do it? How hard is it to copy and paste?
thanks a lot for the reply! I am really wondering to do it, i just feel that ppl that come to my blog aren´t looking for ads but just download my files. That is the problem that i see with adsense if i get approved, no one would click at it. I´ll take a look at other affiliate site too just to make sure. noob question: if i make everything (buy domain, move blog, etc), do google will consider it as a "new blog" or do they know that "this blog has been online for more than 2 years before moving to somewhere else"? Project Mobius: It is not the problem of losing something, i know that is free, etc. But for me it is a huge step to move my blog to somewhere paid (right know everything is free for me) and not getting profit to pay at least the host (not sure if i wrote it clearly, english is not my main language). Thats what i am afraid.
if you don't earn anything, what is the difference from not having ads in the first place? Nothing has changed but if you don't try you will never know if you can earn or not. It will be a new blog, your content is 2 years old doesn't mean your new domain is 2 years old as well.
Thanks for the help (and tip). I hope since the domain will be new, it will not affect so much at the decision to accept me at adsense. (i´m reading right now other topics about it here). i edited my previous post to answer you there, just know i saw that you replied this topic.
Don´t make me feel worst than i am (just kidding). I´ll see if i set today some domain (maybe host too, or tomorrow). Maybe just pay for 2 years and see what happen.
Haha. Yeah, that would be a good thing. Google like domains and not just blogs. Don't pay for 2 years unless you plan on creating more websites. I'd go for just 3 or 6 months. You know, to test things out.
So, I´ll pay just the domain for 1 year (not that expensive, just $10). I´ll see how it works on hostgator (if their prices are okay for some months) I have some ideas to create some other websites, but my problem is time to blog (and i guess setting some autoblogs are good and bad at the same time)
I'm using HostGator and I can tell you for a fact that they rock. I love using them. Your problem is to blog? True.
Not to blog but finding time (work + university + random activities) to blog. Monetize the traffic like CPM? (or is there any other way?)
You can always link affiliate products that are specific to your blog. Google Adsense is one of the easiest ways to monetize, especially if you have targeted traffic coming in. If you have large numbers of traffic (20,000 page views a day or more) Then I would encourage you to look at a CPM network that pays $2 to $3 per thousand impressions. You'll make stable income pretty quickly with that kind of traffic.
i´ll check for some affiliate sites, but i am negative about finding one related to my blog. should i hijack this topic and ask if someone already have discussed about CPM networks here (like another topic with links and indications)? Because until now i saw some pretty nasty cpm sites (infected, malware, p0rn, etc)
There are a couple of really good CPM networks, but you need some serious traffic to get into them. I don't think Tribal Fusion will even talk to you unless you have like 30,000 page view a day. They want to see relevant traffic as well, not paid traffic that just hits one page and then leaves. Affiliate products are going to save your ass in slow times. I run a fashion site and affiliate sales kept me alive before my adsense took off.
My experience with adsense is pretty poor. I find it is very difficult to make any money off of it. I would recommend you find some affiliate site you can work with that somewhat works with your demographic. Best of luck!
