If you use Google Keyword Tool for keyword "pewter pendant" you'll see 8,000 global search and 3,000 local search. Is this mean I can expect 8,000 clicks/month if I rank #1 in google? Or atleast I should expect 3,000 or less? I'm really confused about this since one of my site ranks #3 for this keyword and I got only like 2-3 clicks/day. I tried using other traffic estimator tools and most of them say there are only 200 searches for this keyword. Should I believe Google? Or should I use any other tools instead? If so, can you suggest a good one? Thanks in advance for all inputs!
if your page title and description, as shown in the results page, are not attractive to the user, you could be ranked #1 and still only get one or two visitors per day from it.
Searches per month have nothing to do with clicks... Of course you shouldn't expect 8000 or 3000 clicks.... I would say that if you get 8000 visitors a month, which you probably won't from this keyword, you should expect around 150-200 clicks...
Plus when you look at those numbers you must realize that not ever time someone searches for your keywords that they will click the first result on the page, or even second or third.
First, you must use exact match [some keyword], second, this tool is for the adwords, so you need to multiply that monthly search volume x 20(more - less) third, it depends for what country/region you are first, if you want to know how you rank in us for particular search term ad this at the end of the url "&gl=us"m for united kingdom and this "&gl=uk" and so on... Also there is so much factors that you need to consider before you decide to go in one market/search term... Nemanja
Search volume is not indicative of the number of people clicking through to your website. Sometimes, you may search for the same keyword during the week. Since each search is count once, if you made 10 searches within a week, you are contributing to 10 search volume.
Thanks, I get it now. So for 8,000 global searches, how many should I expect to click on my site if I ranked #1? I guess around 8,000/20 = 400clicks/month, as Nemanja's suggested? That seems about right to the current traffic I have now.
If you are using the keyword "pewter pendant" in the tool, make sure you select the phrase and exact option on the keyword. You may be ranked first on pewter pendant, but sometimes searches may include more, which you may not be ranked for , etc.. I just did a search for you - pewter pendant gets about 4400 global broad search, which means can be anywhere in the search term, in any order.... 1900 searches for phrase, which means can be in any order 880 exact searches for this. So if you are ranked first for the keyword "pewter pendant" , which means that only 880 times your site shows up...out of those, dont expect to get 100% clicks...more around 20-25% depending on the appearance of your site within SERPS but remember, these are just estimates, and not actual numbers. Can be higher or lower.
i am still confused! i am believing on Adwords tools. but some times i feel that these metrics are crap.. someone plz help me
Always use exact match when using the Google Adwords tool to get search estimates - the broad match is to tell you what search volumes you could expect as an adwords advertiser setting your keywords to broad match, when it will trigger your ad for synonyms and related terms - As an exact match your keyword gets 1,600 searches monthly. Expect to get 30% of that for first position globally i.e 540 a month or 18 a day. Scale down for local search volume (I couldn't look for that as I don't where you are/where you are targeting) and being in local serps (e,g, google.co.uk, or google.de etc)
Not exactly...you can get a big percentage of those figures if you'll put some trick on your description or even the title & url of your site. Think of something "catchy" phrase that will attract searchers to click your url or link.
Sites on first page of google for any keyword approximatly get 60% of total traffic for that keyword. If your keyword get 8000 monthly visitors means top ten sites may get 4800 monthly visitors. Now divide it with 30 and than 10 and you will get the number of visitors that you might receive
search cont is not = to clicks countUsually a site ranket 1# get the 60% of traffic for that keyword!
