Usually it's worth your while paying to get into directories, but only do so when you have specified your target keywords. Then you'll know just what you're getting and what you're competing for. Good luck.
yahoo does seem to bring in traffic but for 300 bux a year, it kinda seems steep. I was hoping it would bring a little more for that price. depending on your keywords you are targeting, that will be the deciding factor on just how good of an idea it is to pay that money. I would say it was not worth it for me.
I think that the value of a Yahoo listing depends on several factors. If you get listed in a crowded category (meaning you will be bumped to page 10 or so, that the bots hardly visit) and with a bad anchor text, it might not be worthy the $300. But, this page http://dir.yahoo.com/Entertainment/Music/Artists/By_Genre/Rock_and_Pop/Spears__Britney/ is SCREAMING Britney Spears. The titles, the anchors, the backlinks, all are relative to Britney. If I had a site about her, I would certainly pay to get in there. Also, I have observed that if you have a quality site, even if you cancel the listing after the first year, Yahoo will maintain the link.
I think you should use the Yahoo! Directory OR build links through sites that are giving positive pagerank as well as much publicity on Britney Spears. If they talk of Britney, ask them to add your site as the DEFINITIVE site on the fan subject of the star.
If you want to consider the traffic from YAHOO, i think it would be a good idea to submit the site in yahoo directory.
I haven't paid the $300 in years but still rank pretty well in Yahoo. I'm not sure if it is worth it for an established site, but if you are just getting started it might be worth the $$.
Would someone who says it's free kindly post the link to the submission page? I tried a while back and only found paid submissions.
I've heard it has worked pretty well IF you have a quality site you are sure will be included. Especially if you have lots of competition in these areas. Some of ours are already in there and it is almost necessary.
I doubt it's worth all those 300$. I think you would be better of purchasing backlinks from high traffic/pagerank web directories. Thanks, Meti
I don't think i would spend $300.00 on directories period. I think i would take that $300.00 and buy links from relative websites with a high Google trust rank and submit to a few one time payment directories + free directories.
Yahoo is a free link with lots of exposure. I always submit to it free and usually get listed just like it says "after a few months".
Some people have already said what you did, others say you can't add for free. Since you didn't read that, you probably also didn't see my question: What's the link to add a site for free?
http://uk.dir.yahoo.com/ http://ca.dir.yahoo.com/ too name a few, just find the right category and submit your link
