Should I submit my site to directories?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by kf9211, Oct 11, 2007.

Is it still ok to submit sites to directories? I have a site, that I want to submit to directories. Does google and/or yahoo hurt your sites rank, does it remain the same or does it help your site's rank if you have your site on directories?

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Submit to quality directories and/or free ...
Also do bookmark service and a few blogs in your niche
and you will sooner or later raise to the top if your site is worthy ;)

    thx

Of course, specially if it is the only option for you and probably is the best option because other website owners are very unlikely to give you a back link.

check your site at the seo point of view, modify accordingly if requires and found good directory resource then start submit!
G or Y will give higher rank after bunch of submission, but you will have to wait.

Submitting to directories can't hurt your rankings. Otherwise your competitor will submit your site to 1000 crappy directories and beat you in search engines results. There is no such thing as bad link, bad link=no link.

But if you submit to quality dirs, it will raise your rank after some time. Of course, you do not know which directory is good or bad, so submit to as many dirs, as you can and this will give you good results.

This guess work can be reduced by simply looking at the sites that rank directories, they often have paid, free etc listings and have rated these directories and taken away a lot of guess work. by sticking with say the top 100 in each section should get you off to a good start with little stress

Directory rate and directory critic come to mind but there are probably others

Of course it is ok. If you are submitting your site to a proper category in a well indexed directory, you can certainly expect to see some type of result. Do keep in mind you need to do several different levels of promotion to a site, aside from just directory submission.. It's this collective effort of promotion that will eventually get you good results all around.

Submit your sites to directories and the big three will find you..no need to submit to Google, yahoo and msn...Spend your time submitting to directories...Don't forget free directories as many of them one day will be in top ranking...Plant the seeds for tomorrow's harvest...But quality is best....no doubt

just my opinion, but im still experiencing very good serp results when submitting to directories, in a constant and gradual way, i mean not using the "submit to 500 directories today" and nothing in the next 3 months. Submitting to free and paid directories every 1-3 days have worked fine for my sites and for most of my clients' sites also.

    Hey Bro
You should submit to the right category your web site and that will be enough and also if you get your site listed on a page with pagerank >4 then it's absolutely perfect.

Of course you should still submit your site/s. Despite all the doom and gloom we portray here there are still quite a large number of quality directories out there that have stood that test of time and will still be here for a long time to come. Forget page rank, I think this will probably be more of a hinderance than a help if you chase for PR but its only an opinion.

No! You risk having your site discovered by those annoying creatures, visitors. These people will consume your bandwidth, read your content, email you with difficult questions, and even try to buy products and services from you, resulting in extra business. Avoid at all costs.

I agree. That is an excellent point. You always have to start somewhere and free/paid directories are not a bad option.

    heheheh :D

    Good one obelia

I guess the only ones that are really suffering are the ones that dont know any better..

Paid or Free links in the end dont much matter as their will always be "Linking"
on the web no matter "whom" trys to do whatever.

    As someone mentioned above...
find the proper catagory and dont spam your title or description and you will succeed

    thx
    malcolm
