Should I split this content

I have some original articles and pictures and content that I can build around a domain that has my targeted keyword in it. My question is I was hoping to do a "bloggish" article section and then also have recommended/reviewed products that feed from the blog articles. Is that too much for one site - should I have a blog site and an informational site?

Hoping to monetize this site - figuring some PPC and try out affiliate. Just really getting my feet wet in SEO so would appreciate some suggestions. This is my first big step into this business - I have built websites for years just never really tried to make money. I have 10.00$ sitting out there in a Google Adsense account that I earned and did not know about from an old site I had (Forgot I had placed some ads on it).

What I have ready to be clear to those that respond-

    • I have a keyword targeted domain (Not up yet because I am still deciding the structure and contents.)
    • 3 articles so far but I have enough information for at least 10 more all original before I post the site and have to stop and think about it
    • A list of at least 2 possible affiliates with products available for me that work with my targeted keyword
    • Google adsense account ready to hook up
    • Lots of unigue images to add to the site that reflect the main keyword and products from the affiliates

Some serious advice would be of great help -

Can I build a good site with a blog and product page combined? Or is it too hard to optimize something that caters to both elements? Should I attempt a wordpress theme or stick with css/html which I know now?

I do think that the blog and product pages can be combined. My personal experience is that if you place the Ads hirizontally as we move from top to bottom, you get better responses. Other than that you will have to experiment and see what works. You know the best.

Well it really depends on how you are planning on delivering the content doesn't it? If the blog will be calling out the products in question then integrating both into the same area makes a bit of sense, but I think you'll quickly get cluttered.

Additionally, keeping the blog/products seperate makes it easier to update one without the other doesn't it? If you have a product but not an article about it, put the product up so that early traffic can get it even if there isn't an article yet. Or if you want to write about a product that isn't represented in your products, users won't be confused looking for the product when it isn't actually there yet.

Also, Wordpress provides a great deal of features that you might spend far more time and effort on to write yourself than it is worth. Of course you are still limited to the features of Wordpress, so if you are thinking about going beyond that feature set you may want to roll your own solution.
