I got an offer for nintendo-wii.org for $5000 which I turned down. I know I can get more then that, but what do you think? How much should I hold out for?

$5000!? Wow! I would have sold on the spot! :D

But that said I have absolutely no experience in selling domain names... What does the "wii" stand for btw?

Personally, I'd sell it at that price. Not only do you make some immediate cash, which you can then use to perhaps buy some other sites, but you skip the whole development phase and the time you save can be used on something else. You also avoid the possibility of Nintendo sending their lawyers after you for registering a domain with their trademark in (it won't necessarily happen, but if you can discharge that risk and make a bit of money in the process then why not?).

Just make sure that the buyer isn't one of the scammers doing the rounds, such as Opera Engineering.

to elaborate on my previous post...I have an idea that the name Wii won't officially make it to market...I think it will be changed before then...

It is possible but they already have started a marketing campaign with the name so it would be a little hard to change course. Not saying it couldn’t happen but just not probable.

Someone here asked what Wii stands for.

Well, I've been in Japan for the last 9 years so here's my two cents:

It's pronounced 'we', as in more than one person - I guess promoting gaming as a social thing.

Maybe it comes from the Japanese for 'good', which is 'ii', and the English letter 'W' which is commonly used to mean 'double' in Japan. Double-good?

Seems to make sense, but the funniest thing is that 'wee' at least in British English means to urinate! :D

Seems a lot for a .org extension. I would have taken the offer of $5K.

It makes me wonder what the .com will be worth!

Enough for Nintendo's lawyers to take an interest I imagine. :)

Makes you wonder why they show an interest though if the site is promoting the Nintendo Wii. Surely the extra publicity is worth it. Heck... even bad publicity can turn out to be a bonus in the end.

I imagine it's the principle, if they're not seen to be defending their trademark then there's a possibility that it could become diluted to the point where it is no longer valid. I agree that it seems a bit daft though, even more so when you have companies such as Apple going after rumour sites like Think Secret who do nothing but build up hype for the next product release.

I don’t think any reputable company wants other websites riding their wave. I personally wouldn’t mind but I do understand why some companies take their trademark seriously.

i think you should of sold it ...
if microsft sued somebody for including MS Vista in there google ad then i think nintendo might just come after you and your domain.
you could of had $5000 now you might land with $0 or minus a few thousand for copyright infringment
