Should I sell my PR6 website?

    Hi all

I have a PR6, five years old website focused on web design. It's listed in three DMOZ categories, has 200 inbound Google links, 4000 inbound MSN links.

I'm now moving away from web design and starting affiliate marketing / content publishing, so I'll be building my own sites and targeting different markets.

The question is: do I sell it or keep it to 'seed' my new websites? My initial thought was get rid of it because it won't be 'on topic', but I'm not so convinced 'on topic' is as important as some people believe (see http://www.fortuneinteractive.com/laptop.php / http://www.searchenginejournal.com/?p=3640).

I have a possible buyer at ~$6000. Do I take the money or keep the site for long-term profitability?

If I were you, I would sell the site for that amount. And than I would invest the money in new websites ;)

I would probaly do the same as Lukaslo. Spend $500 and get a PR2 domain, custom design, etc, then put $1000 or so into advertising and you'll have a nice site going on.

Well, it depends on your income. But for $6000 I would definatly go for the offer, and invest money in future projects.
I'm a pretty big invester myself, almost 50% of the profits I make I keep on investing...

    i agree with the others,
if this URL isn't one u want to keep, I would defiantly sell it, not point it to a new URL

Just because your new project isn't relevant to this site you have, doesn't mean that you should sell it.. i'd think about it, two incomes is better than one :)

    Guys,

    Thanks for the replies.

I should've made clear - there's no longer an income from the site in question - it's just the 'store front' for a web design business that I've recently sold (i.e. I have sold my client portfolio to another web design company).

If I keep it, I'd re-design and perhaps use it as a blog with which I'll link to any new sites I build ... thereby giving them a nice link or two from an established domain.

I'd appreciate any other thoughts or opinions before I make a decision, although I'm leaning towards selling it at the moment.

    Thanks.

Not making an income for you, then I would sell it especially for $6000. Although I guess it depends on you motives. Personally I am one the web to make money, if you are here for the same reson then I suggest you sell.

    Hi

Don't sell it. Use it for traffic for your affiliate programs.

If I have a website that is not bringing in income, a pr6 site no less, and could find no way to really monetize the site to bring in income, I would sell it in a heartbeat!
I am not married to any of my sites, so if the price is right, I will sell off.

At the price offered, I would definitely use an escrow service to make sure I got the money sitting there while the site is being transferred to new owner.

Do not use paypal, or any other payment processor for this!

Again, thanks for all the replies. :)

At the moment the site generates nothing, but that's because it's nothing more than a 'shop window' for the web design services I was offering.

It looks like the prospective buyer has changed his mind, so I'll be sticking with the domain (unless someone wants to offer $6K+ ;))

So now I have a slightly different problem - how do I redesign a website that is linked to with 'web design cityname' or 'search engine optimization cityname'? I'm sure I'll come up with something.

kahsoon, or anyone else intersted, I'm open to offers. The other part of the equation for me is that I'm going travelling for six months, so the domain is going to be 'dead' for that time. Better that someone makes it work than I sit on it for no benefit.

PM me for details and discussion.
