I have also heard of ebay but don't know how either really works for domain names. If I have a name and I put it on sedo, how will people find it? Do they just randomly browse through thousands of names?
I sold a domain on sedo, it was an old one I had just thought about letting expire.. I ended up getting 150$ for it
sedo it's a good place to sell domains. if you park the domain with them, you pay 10% commission fee. Many people look for domains on sedo, if your domain is good you will sell it.
when you a park a domain also, it is advertised on the parking page as "for sale" and a potential buyer can place a bid for it.
Sedo is a great site not only for selling but domain parking. They let you choose a keyword so you can make sure your ads are relevant to your domain name. There are also many different layouts to choose from and the site is free to sell or park domains. They take a percentage if your name sells (disclosed before you sign up). Good luck.
So I put my domain name on there as an auction? Do I have to sell it after a certain amount or can I change my mind and tell them I want more?
Im not an expert but I have a few domains parked there, none have sold yet. First you park the domain at sedo and then if there is an offer on it you can go to auction. You have the freedom to reject offers if you haven't set a fixed price, not sure about after an auction has started, maybe there is a reserve price you can set. Hopefully you earn some parking revenue while you wait. And stay away from ebay, it sucks for domains.
I am an expert on sedo, actualy i live from my business with sedo! I started few years ago and i had success, but to be honest... to sell domains is hard and they will expire before they get sold! Just domains with content turnkey website can be sold, but it must have a good traffic to get sold! It works like this, sedo watch the members activities when they watch domains on their site, then they colect the domains with keywords that the members had interest to wach and send emails from that category! I receive my self these emails, but i am just a seller not a buyer, and i purchased alot of expired domains on godaddy auction wich were listed on sedo for sell before, but never sold, so i build a goog content and send it traffic and sell it again on sedo! I hope my info was useful!
Im currently selling one through sedo, its been parked there for a while, being charged the 10% fee of course but its done through their escrow service and seems handy, when sale is completely finished and i have my money il report back what i think, so far is seems well organised. Of course the domain has generated some revenue from being parked there for a few months too.
I have nearly all my domains listed for sale at Sedo but most are at max price for now and then later I will bring the prices down to a realistic level. I don't park many there as they don't make much compared to other parking companies but I think more valuable names get better parking income there plus they have the pro account thing. Lately I'm parking newly registered domains at Sedo first, then I will wait till they get indexed by Google before I then decide if they stay at Sedo, moved to another parking company or get developed right away. I wish you all the best selling, give it a go and let us know.
I have sold three domains in the past 60 days from my SedoPro account. Yesterday they added their new Auto-Select: I have applied it to about 20 domains to check it out.
Edit: Pleased with their service, everything completed and funds recieved, a rather pleasant experience.
I have sold a couple on there. If the name is of any use, a potential buyer will easily find it, don't worry !
use ebay if you are looking for a quick sale, but use sedo if you domain is a premium and youdon't mind waiting for a bit. Also in sedo usually you will make more money but it takes longer.
remeber there are hundreds of thousands of domains on sedo and the odds of selling are low so be prepared to wait! and hopefully it will sell before it expires (reg ) In 8 months on sedo I have sold 1 !! for $250 thats it and I do not own garbage domains. afternic is $45 to join and its the same scenario. Domaining is NOT as profitable as everyone thinks unless you have YEARS to wait for returns in many cases.
