Should I run an affiliate program around directory submission and submission service?

I am considering an in-house affiliate program to help promote my new directory by offering commission on featured links and submission services. Is this a good idea? Are there other directories with successful affiliate programs?

What sort of commision would you have in mind?

I joined one that conveniently added 2 conversion amounts within the first few days, hoping id be daft enough to fall for that and keep the ad on my directory forever. :)

If you run it right theres no reason it couldn't work out for you.

Non directory related, but ive even had an affiliate program send monthly reports to me, up to 6 months after ive totally removed their ad, as if by magic the report shows click throughs. :)

    So funny, lol

I have had some success with an affiliate program with one of my directories "Skaffe". It started out slow but has done surprisingly well so far this year.

Just remember you have to have a product people want to buy in order to do well.

You can use Google adwords to advertise your directories.

? as others have said your product needs to be all good before hand. There are plenty of cheap ad networks out there, so build up your banners and ads and place your own ads, then test , test and test again every part until you have good banners working for you, good conversions and every single part of your business is as good as you can get it.

Once you have that rite i would consider using an established affiliate network to promote the product over and above a one man show as your will have access to many hundreds of potential affalites, you can still promote this by sending them to your affiliate links in the network.

    hard game but its possible
