There seems to be a lot of confusion. Can someone cite something specific on Google's help about this topic?
Well if you removed them all, whatever advantage to those links will be gone which would be unfortunate for the owners of those links, but I think it helps that you link to others
Nofollow links though not crawled through Google, but overall contributes to generating traffic to your site..!! So removing them will definitely not going to profit you, but surely loose links for your site..!!!
I do not remove the no follows, you have to keep a mixing follow and nofollow, but most of them be nogolow, if you eliminate the nofolow attribute it can hurt your pagerank definitely.
once said by Matt Cutts a link is a link, if the backlink is related to your niche even when its nofollow. Google will grant the permission
As long as it has substance crawlers will search for any vital info from any webpage/site. Focus more on quality because quality content still prevails all the time.
I think it gives Google a nice balance that you regard other people's sites rather than have a site for your own interest, if you allow no-follows
rel="nofollow" is basically used to avoid passing page rank to the particular link. So keep nofollow as is.
I think it's a good idea to give the search engines the impression that you are getting both type of links
But who cares parge rank these days? I am considering removing nofollow because... 1. they are not part of the standard 2. Google stopped obeying them. They don't have a purpose now. Any more thoughts?
Google never said they don't follow nofollow links. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nofollow#Interpretation_by_the_individual_search_engines
I think it is best to have a mix of Followable links and No-Follow links as the link building looks more natural in googles eyes!
Exactly, nofollow helps to maintain your own page rank, and protects you from potentially associating your site with bad content that is outside of your control. Unless you can personally review each link, you are best to leave them as they are.
Nofollow does NOT help you maintain/retain PageRank. If you think that, I would suggest educating yourself and reading Matt Cutt's blog entry regarding PageRank sculpting.
