Should I remove copied content?

I made my blog and used autoposter for some time on it. I have about 20 automated posts and last 10 are originally mine. The automated part was obviously a mistake.

Should I remove those pages and keep the original ones? Will I rank better then?
Or it can hurt my SERP?

    What to do?

Remove them, not only can you get penalized by Google, the content owners might just file a DMCA complaint against you as well.

In most cases, I would advise against such a drastic change of content as it might really hurt your SERP's for your blog, not to mention you'd be removing pages from existence that might be indexed in Google, prompting a 100% bounce on those pages when people see a nothing page.

BUT...... in this particular instance, I think you should remove the copied content asap, as it is more hurtful than the deletion of content itself. If the articles each have their own pages on the site, consider changing those that are unoriginal into something of your own rather than deleting them altogether.... this way, Google is seeing updated content, which is great, as well as fresh original content, another plus. AND you're not losing pages that might be indexed by Google.

Either way, you gotta '86 the copied content because Google's gotten really good at finding and penalizing unoriginal stuff. Plus you don't want any infringement issues. Good luck.

No you shouldn't remove the content.

The content has already probably been cached by Google, so removing it will send any visitors to 404 pages.

Just keep the content their, but remove the feeds.. Then start creating your own content - google will not penalize you.

    * Re-write it in your own words and sentences to make it truly original
    * Remove it and 301 redirect to your home page or some other blog post
    * Google for exact quotes from your article. Is your site in the results? Supplemental results? If it has a good result you may want to leave those pages, forget about them and focus your time on new posts

A large number of original posts will outweigh any penalty to your site from duplicate content. Google's default action when they find duplicate content is to de-index or supplemental the _duplicate page_ itself, not the whole site - this is based on reading google's patent and some posts at searchengineland.com. If Google finds a disproportionate number of duplicate posts on a site, it is reasonable to think that they would penalize the entire site by visiting it less frequently and assuming that most of it is duplicate content.

EDIT - I am assuming you have a legal right to host the duplicate content. If it is violating copyright, get rid of real quick-like.

Yes. Duplicate content doesn't help your site, and it is usually not as good quality as the stuff you do yourself, so it reflects badly on the rest of your site.

I have the rights to use the duplicated content. That's not what I'm worried about. I just wanted to position in SERPs better.
    I'll just rewrite those posts.
    Thanks for the info:)

I was wondering what if he credits the source? Like if he links to the article and the original author? Would that help?

Wouldn't help in terms of Google marking it duplicate and putting in supplemental index (or de-indexing). Google wants to serve unique content.
Adding the source might actually help G identify it as a duplicate -- if they are checking things like that. But more likely google would flag as duplicate only based on a high % of page content matching other stuff in the index.

You should remove your copied content. there is no use of that, google does not like copied content.
you can rewrite the same content and use it for your posting its not a spam content.

It is always Recommended to write unique content for your website. you can refer to other sites for ideas, but copying the content as it is will make penalized. Google gives minor penalty for duplicate content which would be removed at the next indexing of the fresh content. So you can try to re-write the content to make it unique.

This is the fact that always a copied content would send a bad effects to your visitors and for search engines also. Google also give weightage to the original content, something fresh and explained in your won views and ideas.

As everyone has it's own way to explain a term. Due to your copied content Google may penalized you and your ranking also as for 300+ or 500+ or probably out from the SERPs.

So never give your visitors and crawlers a stale content, just make it fresh, rewrite it and submit again, after some time you will surely get the same position, if you loose after changing that.

Better to remove the copied content and write your own unique to escape the copyrighting and Google penalization.

Just edit your content if possible and made some unique content. If not possible delete those once those link is crawled and treated as backlink it will create a adverse effect to your site.
