With these problems with google and almost completely dropping my site from its index. Should I register with a comparison site as they make up 5 of the top 10 in google for my number 1 target keyword? How should I choose? By there CPC price or where there site is in SERPS for my target keywords? If 5 show in the fist page for my main keyword should a register with all 5? I've found adwords to be a bit of a waste of time so I'm very cautious of signing up with these comparison sites.
Using a price comparison site has both benefits and pitfalls. They can be far more expensive then adwords etc, and the conversion tracking is often far less advanced or accurate. However, listing with a well known one will dramatically increase traffic, but keep in mind that the customers will be buying on price alone, so not the best way to build a brand.
Thanks for the info. I did read that the conversion rates where good from comparison sites? How does it effect SERPs? If like I say the first page for my main keywords is full of comparision sites would having a lot of links to my site on all of them help push me above them in the SERPs?
We've signed most of our clients up for shopping portals. The traffic is very targeted hence the cost per conversion actually works out better than adwords for many of them. It won't help your SERPS though.
Thanks Matt, I think I'll give them a try as adwords didnt really work for me. Most of them accept froogle feeds dont they?
You might have to make some slight ammendments to the feed, but to be honest Froogle was the most difficult to use! The others are fairly simple in comparison.
Sweet thanks, just changing my site a bit to get better conversion rate and I'll give them a try. Finger crossed they'll bring some sales in.
I only just joined this forum but i have to disagree with the above, price comparison sites spend thousands if not millions attracting users to their sites, as users generally are prefiltered before they even get to the merchants listings the target audience is much more defined. It is an art as much as adwords is and paying the most does not always mean that you will get the best converting traffic but for the most of these comparison sites being the cheapest certainly does help. Problem is that it i is also the first ad that people click on when they are just casually looking too. As for building a brand i would suggest that it is the most perfect way, imagine you are listed in the top 5-10 of all sites selling your product and all only on a cost per click basis which is fast and quantifiable, if that is not a perfect way of building a brand i do not know what is. remember your ad may only be clicked on once but it was probably shown 200 times more. A combination of comparison sites see's users more exposed to a familiar brand which eventually leads to higher click through rates on lower ppc spend (but we are talking over a year or two combined).
