Right now you are operating as a sole proprietor which may be just fine.

An LLC protects your personal assets if the corporation is sued. I personally believe an LLC generally makes sense.

In Illinois check with the Secretary of State's office or if you register businesses with the county check with them for details.

Where I live an LLC costs $75.00, is completed in just a few days but we do pay the state a minimum tax (franchise tax) of $250.00 per year.

    Good Luck.

I heard somewhere that an Illinois LLC will cost me about $500. I'm just not too sure what exactly I need to be considered an LLC. Is it just a one-form application?
