I live in Illinois and I'm looking to see if I need to get incorporated. Basically I own a chain of websites that I would put under this one business. Is this something I would need: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/business_services/publications_and_forms/llc.html ? What do I need to do this? What kind of business should I start off as? How much will it cost to register in Illinois? How long does it take?
Right now you are operating as a sole proprietor which may be just fine. An LLC protects your personal assets if the corporation is sued. I personally believe an LLC generally makes sense. In Illinois check with the Secretary of State's office or if you register businesses with the county check with them for details. Where I live an LLC costs $75.00, is completed in just a few days but we do pay the state a minimum tax (franchise tax) of $250.00 per year. Good Luck.
Where do you live Yankee0306 here in Florida were paying around 150 for an LLC and thats not including the licenses I had to purchase for my business also. But it was def worth it.
I heard somewhere that an Illinois LLC will cost me about $500. I'm just not too sure what exactly I need to be considered an LLC. Is it just a one-form application?
yea its about 2 or 3..you can one go to the state website and look there should be printable form or internet form. If cant figure it out go to a lawyer who will probably charge you about 70 dollars or so to do it but def worth it.
I payed $475 after all was done. Check out legal zoom it is what i used and it was a very smooth process and saved me alot of time.
