Hi there I run http://www.jbosolutions.co.uk It has been running nearly a year now. Currently if I type www.jbosolutions.co.uk it goes to the site or, if i type in jbosolutions.co.uk it goes to http://jbosolutions.co.uk without the www. I am unsure from all I have been reading about SEO whether or not I should be making a choice here (mostly all of my backlinks have the www) and using this 301 redirect that I have been hearing about to redirect the non www. to www. Should I leave well alone or should I consider doing this? What are the fors and againsts? Thanks a lot in advance Olly
Yes, redirect the non-www to www. Also, in Google Webmaster Tools you can specify what version you prefer.
use the following code in your .htaccess file Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.com [nc] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] Please REPLACE domain.com and www. newdomain.com with your actual domain name.
