i read seo sites saying you should re submit your site to google once a month but surely google should pick up on links to my site and new pages etc and visit via them. is this correct.

Whatever SEO sites you are reading....are not SEO sites if they suggest resubmission....

    LOL

    LOL

    LOL

they must be seo's who rank for terms like

"red and blue flying carpets for sale in bloomingidiotville"

You should start a list of SEO sites NOT TO READ :D

    I beg to differ.

Assuming, of course, that they mean "modify and update your sitemap, then resubmit it to google / yahoo / msn / ask"

Quite frankly, I do this about once a week on frequently updated sites, and google seems to love it. *indexed and frontpage SERPS in about 24 hours when combined with basic social bookmarking*

Of course, if all of your stuff is already indexed, and you haven't updated anything, then there really isn't any point...

You are speaking of long tail non competitive keyword phrases I would venture to guess.

More competitive terms won't have that type of result unfortunately.

As a perfect example try to rank the site in your sig link for the keyword - flash games

Report back on how that works .....

You are wasting your time resubmitting it all the time.

What you should do is - update your sitemap if it changes a lot.

Index new pages by using something like Digg.

Not only the SEO site, and other site like business, if u have more page which not indexed by google, then you'll re-submit it monthly.

Its just a waste of time and effort.. try submitting your site to other social bookmarking sites, that way you will have backlinks rather than re-submitting it to google.

gone are the days whenyou needed to resubmit your site every so often .

the technology at the major search engines is good enough they will find your site quite easily without you doing anything . The above poster is right your time is better spent doing other things.

heh, completely forgot I had that in my sig. All 'n all, i have spent about 2 hours on link building for that site, and it generates about $0.25 a day with 50-100 uniques from search engines.

Combined with a couple other links, i have first to second page serps for ~ 100 words (x) "x flash games"

Been using this technique on a high paying/competative niche whenever i post a new article *currently pr0 site*. each new 1,000 word onsite article brings in about 6 naturals a day on average. starting in 24 hours from social bookmarking and resubmission of the sitemap (which I don't really see as a waste of time, since I almost always have webmaster tools and analytics open, and it takes about 20 seconds from that interface).

I also have a problem with search engines other than google. Even if I get a few decent quality links to my site, I still have to resubmit my sitemap in order to get my new page indexed within a month.

Switching over to 6,000 word articles (2000 words/page)+ youtube videos and images. I expect to do a little better.

Really, though, i can't say for sure that it helps. But I'm pretty much going with anything that "couldn't hurt". After all, without trying things outside the norm, I will never get ahead of my competition.

NEVER submit your site trough an submit page of a search engine. Rather send your site to digg or so, you will be listed within a day.

You should re-submit the sitemap when you add content, not re-submit the site itself at google.com/addurl. Go to google.com/webmasters and read the material
