i agree, keep the job until your replacing ur current income with that of the income from your website
I would stick with your job until I feel secure enough that the own ventures would succeed. Good luck with whatever you choose! //Andreas
I think that until children reach the age of 5 and start school and therefore start needing more material stuff, the risk is worth the rewards, as long as you can put food on the table. That said, whether you succeed or not might depend more on how unique and in demand your skills set is. Sometimes, hard work and will just doesn't cut it. And since the full-time job market is shrinking, you should really make sure you have what it takes. The first time I went solo, I quit a very comfortable government job, and while it turned out well $$ wise, I accepted another comfy job in a bank for the social aspects, but I quit that job too last January. $$ wise it hasn't been as interesting as the first time, but I am still pulling in 6k on average per month, highest month was 12k. That is because my skill set is in demand. Matched to my work experience, I have a pretty unique/specialized skill set. For design/computer repair, I wouldn't risk it. Too much competition. And while I agree that not all designers are created equal, in the mind of clients they are. So until you have something unique to offer - maybe a prize, a mural or anything else - or a reputation that you can build on, your value on the market is based on how low your prices are. And thats just not good. If I was you, I would only risk it after getting your multinational to pay for some training that would give you an edge over the competition. I've worked in one, and they all have programs to keep you motivated so you don't do what you are planning to do. Just find a program that can give you that something extra that people will pay for. Some businesses even pay MBAs so that would obviously make it worth it. At the very least, you would have something else to rely on for that 0 other income stream problem.
I would not recommend quitting your day job. Or at least get a part time job, so you will survive in the worst case scenario.
I quit my dayjob three months ago. It isnt easy quitting even when you know it is the right step. My adsense earnings reached upto my salary level one year back. I held on to my job for an year to minimize the risk of a fall in earnings. Adsense earnings inched up till march. I quit. And Big Daddy struck Whatever decision you take, you shouldnt regret it. Dont look back.
