Hello. If I have a lot of materials to put into my new website, should I put EVERYTHING in at once? or should I update daily? does it matter? thanks. _ivan
I think it's better to update daily rather than putting everything up at once. It seems more natural to do it that way!
Why not go ahead and put them all up and start working on some new content? No need to moderate the work if everything is ready to just be uploaded. It will free you from having to constantly update every day, and you can work on new things. Plus, you never know when the search engine spiders will visit. When they hit your site and you already have a lot of content up, that just means more search engine keywords for someone to find your site through. Edit: What's "natural" got to do with it? We're talking about automated bots here.
great. thanks for the replies and advices. I think I'll upload all the stuffs that are ready and work on the new stuffs. _ivan
i'd put maybe half to kickstart the site and then leave some for updates. googlebot will visit your site more often if you update the site frequently - so unless you have lots of time for new content, i'd keep some for future updates.
Unless he is using a blog with an automated Google sitemap ping, there is nothing to tell Google he's added content, unless he continuously submits a re-edited sitemap everytime he adds said content. So what you are saying doesn't make sense. How would Google knows he's updated his site to come back and index it?
Depends on how much content you have? If you're putting up a 3,000 page website Google is going to think that's rather suspicious & may be less likely to deep index you as quickly. Whereas if you start with 20-30 pages & slowly build the site organically, you'll be more likely to get all your pages indexed
3000+ pages at once is definitely suspicious. I don't have that many stuffs though. but yes, thanks for the tip.
3000+ pages need not be suspicious - it all depends on the subject matter and the owner. I can forsee sites which might be launched with that many pages from scratch. I can also see a great many that are spammy and do the same. Consider your audience. Do they expect a full swag of information on day 1? Will they find it odd if the info they need isn't available. If you're selling software, say, they might find it odd that the online manual isn't complete.
Many content management systems and blogging platforms do exactly this with the proper plugins. Additionally, fresh content drives repeat visitors.
