I have plans to set up a site to give out free emails as part of the "promotion".

I am not sure how much it would cost, or how much it will eat up the server. Currently I have a VPS that has 10GB storage, 500GB of bandwidth each month.

I am planning to give out 3MB email accounts.
Option to upgrade to 25MB for $19.99 for 2 years or $12.99 for 1 year.
    My question would be.

How many emails can I handle? Would you be interested in

Or is it just a total waste of bandwidth and space?

    ----------------
Please vote and do comments. I am intending to give email address to tech know hows, college students, and IT professionals in Asia region and worldwide. Anything that has to do with IT & Business.

    Worth it?

I have never tried it, nor even hear of how much it would cost. Your advice is wanted.

    Thanks

Why pay when others give unlimited space for free?

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with joesmillion. There's too much competition and you don't exactly have a unique selling point to entice people away from suppliers such as gmail.

I was thinking about a free (something cooler than the Gmail or Yahoo) those sound so boring.

What I am worrying about is cost, any insight into cost? Thanks. If I can provide it, why not? Its part of my value added creation (to get more visitors) for the Asia region.
Heck, its better than <---FB has a connotation of being funny, not serious, high schooler. While my @ITs.Asia is more like IT type.

    Anyway.

More perspective is needed. Is it worth it? or is it a total waste of time and money? How much is it going to cost really, any idea?
I will have to shut it down anyway, if it cost too much later on. So my plan is to give it a try with 3MB. For anyone who wants a cool name (mostly concentrated toward Asia region and Tech people (College educated IT people)).

    Thanks for feedback.

I will give this a go anyway.

But I want to know how much email will cost, how much bandwidth can I expect it to eat up server's resources? Someone done stuff with email before? I need some info on it.

Don't bother wasting your time and energy! There are already a load of email providers and people are using them as their main accounts. No one will register with a new provider unless they're spammers and they're looking for a new email address to get back under the radar.

Thanks everyone. I will now take your advice literally, I will not provide free email.
I will provide 12 hours mail and delete (sponsor ads)
I will provide paid email. (I guess not everyone will buy one, which is exactly the point stated)
In the future, if things go well I will provide free email permanently.

So what do you think about 12 hours email accounts (it gets deleted automatically after 12 hrs) is sponsored by ads.
Would you like to use a temporary 12 hours account ?

Let me know. Is the 12 hours account interesting to you ? A small sized email, can receive and send emails but size is 0.5 MB, restricted to sending 1 address at a time.

    Good idea ?

I would never sign up for it personally because I could use it one hour and not be back online for 12+ hours, so I couldn't check it and I take forwarding is out of the question.

    Looking for more opinions.

On second thought, I will experiment with all three methods. Give it a year see what happens. (If I can handle it) if not a month to 2.
