Should I place statcounter within each of my posts?

    Hi
I've placed statcounter on my main index page but really I would like to see which posts are the most popular. Can I somehow insert the statcounter code into each post or is there another way of doing it?

    Thanks

    Hi
I'm assuming I should just stick the statcounter code anywhere in the 'code' view of my wordpress? Sorry if that sounds like a daft question only I wasn't sure it'd work like that!

Statcounter shows you the entry and exit pages anyway - adding code to every post would just end up as a confusing mess of lots of projects on the same account.

Depending on your wordpress template you would stick the code after <body> and before </body>, probably either in the header or footer file.

This will then give you sitewide reporting through statcounter.

    Hi Padawan
Yes I have put it in the footer of my site - what's confusing me is that on my stats page popular pages only shows my main page being popular. Now I've only been up and running a couple of weeks so people may not have clicked any further but I'm trying to work out if it will eventually show me the counts on individual posts?

It should do yes. Since the footer file is the same for all pages on your blog, when a post page is loaded, statcounter will be loaded also, and should record the page url for your post page.

Stat counter does show the way the visiting party goes. That along with the entry and exit pages, should tell you your most popular posts.

I use Google Analytics and my cpanel's AWStats to check which posts are most popular.

It depends on the blog software . stat counter provides separate code for blogger and wordpress.

i have a blogger blog. When i add statcounter in my index it track and shows the statistics of all posts.

    Hi all
Thanks so much for your replies. I will keep checking my statcounter then - maybe no one has gone to those pages yet. Still all shiny and new here :)
I will be looking into Google Analytics too as lots of people seem to speak well of it.

I'll visit a couple of posts for you, to help out. ;)

I've never been to Portugal, Spain was as far south as I've ever managed.

    Hi Oioplus
Thankyou very much! And yes it's working - I can now see the posts showing up on the Statcounter.
I'm the other way round - never been to mainland Spain. I really should but any time I get a chance to go away I run straight back to Portugal - lol

I also use Google Analytics and it does exactly what you are asking (and it is very easy to install). I suggest that you try it out, you won't be disappointed (I used to use statcounter too).
