To get more member, you need to have quality posts and/or active forum. That's not necessary to pay member to post but yourself need to work hard on the content

If the price is resonable then you can go for it . Usually post on forum is not only focus on backlink . Sometime it use to create more impression with your signature. With paid posting forum , sometime they would help to suggest your product as well. I think it might not a bad idea but you need to know the quality of the post and where they post to make sure it worth what you paid for .
