Here's an idea for you. I have a free keyword tutorial at the site in my sig. If you follow the directions, you can dig way down and find some really nice keywords that don't have much competition. Then, you can search for a domain with those keywords in it. If you can find just one great .com domain, you can build your gossip site around your domain name.

There's tons of them. Tons of scrapers as well who just republish the content of the other ones.

*shrug* Give it a go if you want. To be honest, if you have an ear out for gossip, you may do well. But if you;re just coping others, it'll be an uphill battle.

Unless you know a lot of people who are willing to go the extra mile to dig up dirt, spend the night in the cold bushes, etc...you might as well don't bother since there are many of them, most of which are very big.

Remember that it is always much better to go with a certain niche instead of going for the general and too competitive idea. Maybe narrowing it out to actors probably or such. Pick one and go for it.

Celebrity gossip sites would have been good about 6-7 years ago, now they are not making much money other than the handful of major ones. If you are running adsense you will see an average click of 1-5 cents.

i wouldn't do a gossip personally, but that tribute site has a nice touch to it right now with everything that's gone down these last couple weeks.

Go for it you can never have too much gossip in this lifetime. If you could find some low competition key words to work with.

If you can provide uptodate recent news that kind of site could draw lot of traffic. There are so many though already.
